Based on what British television I have watched: Pence would be the same denomination as the penny (1 pence=1/100 pounds) Quid and Pounds are the same?

Lots of terms you might hear especially in older films or books etc too....

a BOB is a shilling,

a TANNER is half a shilling (SIXPENNY piece)

a POUND may also be called a note or a bar...half a bar is ten shillings (note)

In my young days five shillings (a crown) was referred to as a dollar (four to the pound in those days) and we used a coin called a half crown which we always called half a dollar.......... ::) those were the days!

As kids at school we had to learn and recite (parrot fashion) along with our multiplication tables: this little thing........which stuck with me at least for the rest of my life.........

PENCE TABLE.

12 Pence are 1 Shilling,

20 Pence are 1 ,, and 8 Pence,

24 Pence are 2 Shillings,

30 Pence are 2 ,, and 6 Pence,

36 Pence are 3 Shillings,

40 Pence are 3 and 4 Pence,

48 Pence are 4 Shillings,

5O Pence are 4 and 2 Pence,

60 Pence are 5 Shillings,

70 Pence are 5 ,, and 10 Pence,

72 Pence are 6 Shillings,

80 Pence are 6 ,, and 8 Pence,

84 Pence are 7 Shillings,

90 Pence are 7 and 6 Pence,

96 Pence are 8 Shillings,

100 Pence are 8 and 4 Pence,

104 Pence are 9 Shillings,

110 Pence are 9 ,, and 2 Pence,

120 Pence are 10 Shillings.

240 Pence are 1 pound

...oh what fun education was 70 years ago......

...commoner ;D

The main reason we resisted it was the cost. Prices doubled overnight as we knew they would. >:(

I sometimes get confused even after all this time. What they call a "senior moment". :-/ ::) ;)
