;D I agree with Austin Powers..
Who throws a shoe. I just saw that video before I came in here. I watched it a few times. They came from the behind Bush to and the guy who was next to Bush tried to swat the second shoe.

I was amazed someone did that.
Do these people even think before they do there actions? Its crazy. I mean I imagine he will be in lots and lots of trouble for throwing a shoe from his anger. and his mission wasn't successful so now he's probley even madder.  :-/

and the funny think I just watched Air Force One the movie yesterday about people hijacking Air Force One.  ::)

Saw an article stating that Bush waived Secret Service off.
Did not want the issue to get outa hand.

Quick thinking, i think.

I would have thought the secret service would have pulled Bush out of the room after the attack.

I think you are all missing the point of the shoes. In Iraqi culture, it is the hight of the insult ladder to throw or hit someone with a shoe. This for them is equal to a phuq you a$$hole and giving them the finger. As a world leader, he should have realised this and saying a while later, "So what if a guy threw his shoe at me?" shows little understanding of the whole incident and feelings of some people in Iraq.
On a lighter note, now that the leader of the free world has been attacked with a pair of shoes we can now expect even tighter security. Airlines, all shoes must now be in your hold luggage or a plastic bag that cannot we opened until you leave the aircraft. Please wear extra thick socks of flip flops to board the aircraft ;D

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

As someone who has been to Iraq, and is a little familiar with the foot insult, I think it was wise to shrug it off. Blowing it out of proportion wouldn't have accomplished anything good, and may have only made it worse by giving them satisfaction. We're better than that.

I've had people show me their shoe soles and point at them, and losing our cool would have only given them satisfaction. We thought of tying some shoes to our vehicles with the soles facing outwards, but the chain of command didn't think it was very funny.... ;D
