Sometimes people make me sick

My wife and i are sitting in the living room playing a nice game of chess when there is a ring of the door bell.
The neighbors frequently pay is visit so i was rather surprised when i opened the door to a total stranger. Surprised so, that i even failed to notice the "Pizza Hut" logo on his shirt.
Apparently he had just been robbed of his pizzas in my front yard!
Some delinquents had called in a pizza order using my address, and when it arrived, leaped from behind a nearby van cracked him one over the back of the head and ran off with his delivery.
I felt true sorrow for this young man, out trying to do his job.
Worst case scenario he could have been seriously injured or even killed... for a pizza!
I also felt a bit of responsibility as this had all transpired on my property.
I hate to sound this way... but it seems like every time a hurricane (Ike in this case) causes a population shift, the crime rate in this town skyrockets. >:(
Fortunately the guy seemed ok, and Pizza Hut has no doubt dealt with this incident before.
I called the manager on duty and insisted that my address be black listed for anything but pickup orders.
i doubt it will take very long for pizza joints to halt deliveries altogether!

It is indeed sad, but don't beat yourself up over it. You had no part in what those low-life pieces of feces did. In fact it sounds like you performed admirably through your actions.
Unfortunately there will always be that certain element that will prey on the innocent and law abiding members of the community, mostly because they're to lazy to earn a respectable living.
All we can can do is pick up the peices they leave behind and know we are making a better place for those who wish to be respectable members of society.

>:( I don't even know how to say it appropriately for these forums, so I'll hold back. Well done on your part though, you took care of business and I am glad to hear the delivery guy wasn't badly hurt. People who do a public service risk a lot, no matter what their line of duty is...what a shame >:(

Been thinking about this. I'm not keen on pizza myself so don't know the score. Do these delivery kids collect the money? What about tips? In that case I imagine that's what these thugs were after. The pizzas would have been a bonus.

Sad to read that but it must happen a lot.
I must admit to living in what was regarded to be a 'rough' area(things improve) and thinking about it none of our delivery guys look to be pushovers. We regularly get pizza and for an extra $2 why pick up?

There were reports a year or two ago that our local McDonald's in Clinton was being robbed. Folks would order, drive up and pay, and some hoodlum would wait (I guess in the dark) for the attendant to hand the food out the window, run up, snatch it, and run off. How desperate do you need to be to steal a hamburger?

How desperate do you need to be to steal a hamburger?
I've obviously led a very sheltered life.

Doug, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by that.

What I mean is that I can't imagine ever being desperate enough to steal a burger. There are obviously people that are.

Ah yes. Sheltered and fortunate to be sure. Myself as well.

Perhaps you have... more so, I hope it isn't that way where you are.
When I was repairing arcade video games and pinball machines, kids* were caught kicking* the machines apart or busting open the door to play free games at a particular ski resort. They each had a few hundred dollars in their pockets given to them by their parents so how dire a need to break into a 25 cent or 50 cent per play game? If you can't beat the machine, show how big you are by beating up the machine.
*Methinks the action makes the term apt. 8-)

I've gotten up on a ski-ball table and dropped the balls into the 100 thing, but that's about the farthest I've done, and it was for my brother as well, since he didn't have many "tickets"

Back in the 17th Century when there was real poverty in this country the penalty for stealing was death. This was later commuted in some cases to
Transportation to the Colonies.
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=347&j=1I've read of examples like a poor woman being transported to Australia for the heinous crime of stealing a loaf of bread to feed her starving children. I don't think anyone in America or the UK should be that desperate today.
