World War Averted!

At the Canadian Grand Prix this year, ITV's Martin Brundle said to Bernie Ecclestone: "There are some pikeys out there putting some new tarmac down at Turn 10. Are they out of the way yet?"
Little did former F1 driver and award-winning commentator Brundle know at the time, but his 'pikey' comment signaled the end of civilized society as we know it.
There were literally 14 complaints from viewers who thought the word was offensive, sparking international outrage, a small civil war in Alaska, the collapse of the economy and the return to a feudal system of government in many countries throughout the world.
Atomic war was narrowly adverted when ITV contacted each of the viewers who complained and apologised for Brundle's comments.
The British media regulator Ofcom announced yesterday that it will take no further action against the British broadcaster, meaning the biggest international incident since Russia dared to put nuclear missiles on Cuba has been averted.
