Whoa :o

We need to give the photographer an award for best shot or something. I cannot believe anyone would stand there and take a perfect shot under those conditions.

Been there, done that... no screaming --- just down on my knees praying as I took a short "home" flight.

Interesting!, and always an excuse for me to Google my Wikipedia, and find more about the area discussed...

...in this case the type of weather, etc, encountered in the State of Iowa*...>>>>

[color=#003300]My flight was one state further west: Nebraska, part of the central "Tornado Alley."
I told them they call their few mounds 'bluffs' because the things could only pretend to be hills; they constantly spray water over their fields -- they've cut down their few rural trees so that winter windchill goes well below zero and there's little shade from the occasional 114

That was taken about 10 miles northeast of my house a couple of weeks ago.  It made the news paper here, then the national news.

Ya know, I would imagine that anyone under that would get a a new appreciation for that old saying, "That didn't amount to a fart in a whirlwind"..... ;)

I'm just glad the system that brought those storms has gone.  Between the tornadoes and flooding here in the Midwest, we've had enough.  The weekend before the storm that is pictured, we had numerous tornadoes all over the area, including near my house.  If I had my camera instead of worrying about the tornadoes, I could have taken some excellent action shots.  Our fire department was scattered across the area, some storm spotting, and the others took some of the engines out of town and away from the storm path.  The folks in Parkersburg, Iowa empty their station every storm in case it gets hit, and guess what it did.  If their engines and ambulances would have been in station, they would have been demolished.

Well, since we are on the subject, I've got a question. Every year I read about a lot of houses being destroyed and people killed by tornadoes and floodings. I also notice it happens in a certain area of the U.S. So why don't you get out of the way and move to an area where this doesn't happen? I know I wouldn't build my house in an area likely to be destroyed a few times a year.

Crash ;)

I would imagine it's the same reason that they're rebuilding New Orleans.
