Does anyone have a TomTom One XL in-car navigator?

Hi all does anyone have a TomTom One XL sat-nav? Just a general discussion on it. It is capable of picking up speed cameras. Fantastic. But are they fixed of mobile??

I have a similar system to that TomTom. Mine is a Navman. It picks fixed cameras even if they are long gone . You need to keep the software very well up to date to have the latest info on speedtraps. Not sure if TomTom picks mobile cameras, if it has traffic information it might.

I seen the Navman featured on Fair Go, They keep telling drivers to turn into rivers, paddocks etc.... Has that happened to you?

Of course you don't really need to waste your money of such a feature on a sat nav if you stick sensibly around the speed limit.

You are correct my friend, Never leave common sense behind when you hop in a car. These satnav companies cram as many features in as possible so you'll buy i t.

Nope, never happened to me. I got a good one I think. I know cheaper systems will set you up to go in the wrong direction or take short cuts through fields, warehouses and such.

Best story I ever heard was a satnav system that totally screwed up the route from Rotterdam to Hoek van Holland. Both places are here in Holland and located about 30 kilometers apart near the Northsea coast. It send drivers to take the ferry from Rotterdam Harbour to England, turn around overthere and take another ferry back to Hoek van Holland. A trip of approx. 18 hours.

I have a Tom Tom, I rarely use it as I work in London and the Home Counties which I know like the back of my hand. In fact, when I do use it I can normally beat the SatNav's journey time by using a different route  ;D

As for the speed cameras, it will pick up all fixed positions, povided you keep the software upgraded.

Officially there are no speed cams in the database.

And something important... Having the speedcams as a 'speedcam' icon will result in a big fine or confiscation of the satnav. Some police forces arent happy with those lists.
Most solutions put them in as landmarks to prevent the above happening.

Some lists may have the popular mobile spots in too (tunnel exits are popular in holland as the control unit can be hidden behind the concret barriers)

And for the funny stories... there's a reason why the nickname of these things is 'Dom Dom' (Dumb , Dumb) in dutch. The cheaper ones use the infamous 'HP printer' marketing model where the updates are more expensive than buying a new set, and we dutchies dont want to spend a huge amount of money on something that is only used a few times each year.
Further... people dont watch the road signs anymore and start making dangerous last minute decisions on the highways, or call the AA when the batteries get empty ('can you tell me where i am? Im completely lost')

A satnav system took a friend and me for a complete circle along Rotterdam before letting us leave the city, we just put it on manual map mode out of frustration, we decided we liked a map and kneeboard better .
