Somewhat expected I fear. The whole episode had really destroyed not only his personal life, but his career too.

Certainly a timely reminder to young and old concerning the use of certain substances.

A sad loss.

I think it would have been quite possible for his career to recover, he had managed the whole affair with real humility and dignity from what we saw through the media. However this had clearly had a tremendous personal impact on him, and he must have felt that life was no longer worth living.

As Charlie says, a timely reminder, of any kinds of substances which impair judgement. Many of us would consider driving having had 'just the one' but don't lets kid ourselves that we don't put the lives of our nearest and dearest at risk. Not to mention other road users.

Mark once did a section where he painted an eagle on the nose of an F3, then followed it in flight in a Hawk. Much happier times,

Steve

You have a fair point; Richard Bacon showed that it could be done (although of course his career is now aimed at a slightly older audience). Sadly for Mark Speight I don't think he was able to come to terms with the damage that was done to both his and other's personal lives.

You all know my stance on drugs, so I won't comment on that side of the story.
As for Mr. Speight, a tragic end to a tragic story. It's been well documented that he blamed himself for the death of Miss Collins, his fiance, and was finding it difficult to cope which ultimately led him to take his own life.

I guess you could say he died of a broken heart, metaphorically.  :(

Apparently he was found dead in Paddington Station six days since his last sighting on the Underground.

I have often had to wait a long time for a Train at Paddington Station....

...but six days without food or water waiting for the GWR Train to arrive!... :o...!

Paul.

...seriously Chums...a very sad case.. :'(...!

Never heard of the man......... :-[

He was a kids TV presenter of the last 10 years, and was particularly known for SMart, a kids art programme which continued Tony Hart's legacy.

Mark was really energetic and enthusiastic, and very creative in the things that he produced. With the kids we have watched him on TV hundreds of times, and he will be missed.

...yet another indication how the consumption of dangerous, illegal substances can destroy your life, and the life of others around you!... ::)...!

Those sort of activities, and the involvement in Children's Programs, never did sit well with me... :(...!

Paul... 8-)...!
