The trouble is, I think he will be remembered more for his enthusiasm and encouragement for Gun use in the U.S.A, more than some of the excellent films he appeared in?... ::)...!

A number of Documentaries have been made with him on the (NRA) subject over the years, and they were never very flattering to him...;)...!

Oddly enough, Planet of the Apes was shown on AMC the day before he died.

That should be an interesting read for us on this side of the Pond, who generally use a house brick to throw at next door Neighbours annoying Cat, rather than use a Colt '45 to achieve the desired result....;)..!

LOL...!

Paul... ;)...!

Charlton Heston.....Films = Good choice....NRA = Bad Choice!....;)...!

I don't expect much.  I suspect they'll dodge the central question... as usual.

Nahh.. It was a good choice. Private gun ownership is a right he felt strongly about. A genuine war hero, accomplished actor and devoted husband for 64 years, is a GOOD man to have backing a cause  :)

I'll throw a shoe at the annoying cat, but if it's an un-welcome, human intruder, he'll have to answer to the 45  ;)

I know it's never going to go away, but we "Brits" from the Homeland this side of the Pond can never really understand our American Cousins and their fascination for "Guns", which we generally look upon as "Weapons of Death" from the old "Cowboy" days...long, long ago!.... :o...!

I pick up the gory details, the results, and the effects of Gun Crime, in my daily "News from the USA" via E-Mail.

The trouble is, we are now experiencing over here in our Cities, the importation of this Culture from Cities like Los Angeles, Oakland, New York, etc...etc...

Paul.... ;)...!

"Cat"...Colt '45?....House Brick?....so many choices!... ::).... ;)....!

...just an observation...;)...!

...just an observation......!

And it's an observation that I agree with, as far as both of our cultures seeing a decline in civil behavior; in or about our large cites.

I'm not gonna agree that your civil decline is an American export, though. There are any number of reasons that the criminal element grows. Education, economic pressures, less than devoted parents.. and on, and on. And to think that the rights of law abiding citizens to defend themselves by owning firearms is the cause.. would be a silly as thinking that motorcycle ownership is at the root of biker gang violence

Was signed up to the NRA as a life member many years ago.  The NRA is aimed mostly towards hunting and private ownership...not your gun toting gang members who choose to take out their frustrations on rivals or random people :-/  I live in such a small town gun violence is unheard of, but I still have a permit to carry and do so many times when heading into a large city or mostly due to my latest job involving cleaning of foreclosed houses, its gotten me and my help (who also carry) out of tight situations a few times, sometimes the old occupants or their little friends decide to show up and cause problems, or in some cities you will get a house thats sat awhile and been taken over by someone else, aka drug dealers :-/  Never had to use it, but theres been a couple times the hammer was pulled back and finger on the trigger :-X

I know it's never going to go away, but we "Brits" from the Homeland this side of the Pond can never really understand our American Cousins and their fascination for "Guns", which we generally look upon as "Weapons of Death" from the old "Cowboy" days...long, long ago!.... Shocked...!

The cowboy days haven't quite ended...just less showdowns in the town square ;D  Just been more modernized, but even at that...around here riding a horse into town is not considered strange or even out of the ordinary in warm weather :P  Not exactly time efficient but still cheaper then $3.45 a gallon gas ::)

Another well known person gone and will be missed by many...can't say I could ever really get into one of his movies though :-[

If it wasn't for guns (and D&A) I wouldn't be the souless cold remorseless person I am to day, I would have all sorts of happy cheery friends and be an active member of my church and community, in other words a living hell.

I've been accused by my "colleagues" of being an ex-patriot due to my habit of using Mr. Glock 17 over a .45 but I'm starting to talk to much now. Live by the gun, Die by the gun.

You have to remember that America is a young country. We don't have the long history of warfare that other countries do. We don't have all the castles, dungeons and torture devises that you normally find in a more gentile society. We don't have the experience of the use of the guillotine for public executions. We've never had anyone drawn and quartered and to the best of my knowledge, there has never been any heads displayed on pikes around the Golden Gate Bridge to discourage people.

So given time and lots of patience, we here in the US can only hope that we can become as non violent as the rest of the world.
