Let's Talk......

Let's talk musical instruments. Or specifically keyboards.

I need a new one and love the Yammy Motif's. Anyone here own one or a similar product they would recommend?

It MUST have 88 weighted keys and I would like it to have all the sounds built in. So more an 88 key synth than a keyboard. Roland Fantom looks tasty too.....

Too bad you don't live in the 'states.  I've got a Fatar 88 weighted key board and a Roland sound box (forget the model) that I bought probably 10 years ago fully intending to learn to play the thing.  I did pretty well, but then life moved on and I haven't even touched the thing in 7 or 8 years...

I was looking at the MM6 origionally and then thought "If i'm gonna spend loads of money I might as well get the whole thing in one", ALTHOUGH There is an MM8 coming out which is a version with 88 weighted keys but most of the reviews have been bad about it.

Beware, Tom.

I have a Fully Weighted, Hammer Action, 88 key, Digital Piano (M-Audio Prokeys 88), which is FANTASTIC if you are a Pianist, and wish for the action and the feel of a real Piano....

BUT...

The heavy key action does not suit the feel required for producing the various delicate nuances of other instruments...Strings, Guitar, Brass, Pads, etc...
For that you need the delicate "Synth Action" type of keyboard!...

...Horses for Courses...;)...!

For producing all my other sounds I always use a Synth Action Keyboard!

For a General purpose Workstation, apart from the standard 61 key keyboard, the next (more expensive) keyboard is a 76 key, Synth Action, Keyboard.

So...

If your Preference is for a realistic Piano feel, go for an 88 Key, fully-weighted, Hammer-action Keyboard for playing live....

For general music production, using all the other array of Voices, go for a Synth Action Keyboard...;)...!

My MM6 Workstation produces all the sounds (including the Motif sounds) and effects of the high end Motifs, at a fraction of the cost...

Ah you see, I was a pianist originally and still am today, which is why I love the 88 weighted action.

Dad's got a Yamaha P-140 "Personal/Digital Piano" downstairs, but it's more of a stage piano and lacks all the voices so requires MIDI linking to another keyboard or sound module, and I would just like it all in one package with all the extra fun toys.

If you're interested Paul, here is a link to a download of my first GCSE music coursework. It's an arrangement of songs from the shows. I played the drums for it, my parents sang 2 parts (sop and bass), and two family friends sang the other two parts. Piano was done by dad, I did the second keyboards part and got someone else to do the bass.

Not bad considering it was all recorded at home and I had the worst mics ever to hand, even if I do say so myself!

The tyros 2 is as expensive if not more so than an XS8 - and out of the two I would rather have the XS8  :)
