[ch1082][ch1072][ch1082] [ch1076][ch1077][ch1083][ch1072]?

Heh.  So, yes, not too long ago I started studying Russian, an interest that kept getting shelved time and time again until I finally just decided to take the plunge.

Today, I finally labeled the keys on my keyboard so that I could actually know which keys were which characters when I switch to a Russian IME.

What I am wondering is if there is anyone here who speaks Russian and would be willing to help me along a bit.  I don't expect much, and I am grateful for any help.  My only hope is to be able to get better and begin to understand this language.

I'm not bad thans, yourself? :)

I speak LITTLE Russian, hoping to find a private tutor soon, but I just thought I'd let you know Darrin. :)

I'm not sure, but Ivan may speak Russian, as I know he's interested in Russian aircraft. You'd have to ask him :)

Blimey, Pyro!... :o...!

Russian?...That sounds complicated!... :o...!

I am still struggling to avoid using too many Apostrophes, and Hyphens, and an excess, or lack of, "oo"s, etc,  in my lovely, native English Language, occasioned by the usual prod from Hagar with a pointed stick!... :-[... ;)... ;D...!

...(...and desperately tying to prevent the awful "Americanisation" of the English Language!)...;)...!

Paul....British/Anglo-Saxon.... :-*...!

Wizard prang, tally-ho, chin-up Chaps, and all that sort of thing!... ;D... ;D.... ;D...!

The letters of the Russian Alphabet are fascinating!...;)...!

Paul,

Russian does seem rather complex to me, too!  I am struggling through a couple of textbooks right now, and I have to say it is as daunting as it is fascinating.

Speaking of fascinating, the Cyrillic alphabet (the orthography used to write Russian) is named after St. Cyril, the monk who developed the system of writing for the Russian language (and for which the Russians seem awfully grateful, ne?).  It is based off of Greek, and if you compare Greek characters with Russian characters, you will find many, many similarities and concurrences, including in pronunciation.

Academically interested in my own haphazard way,
Darrin

Only a gentle prod Paul. All in good fun. :D

Funny you should say that Darrin. I've just returned from Cyprus & started to learn a few words while I was there. Of course, you have to learn the Greek alphabet & pronunciation first. It's a great help that the road signs are in both Greek & English. It struck me that it's similar to the Cyrillic Russian alphabet.

I'm not absolutely sure Craig. At least they drive on the correct side of the road. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

PS. They also have a minimum speed limit on major roads. Good idea.

Title says hello doesnt it?

My friend started learning Russian for quite a while... its a good but tricky language. I much prefer (though still dislike a bit) Spanish which I am doing for my GCSE. I really fall at the speaking side and soon they are taking away the speaking exam... which seems to eliminate the point.

Keep up with it, its always good to have another language... and you can rip people behind their backs without them or your friends being any the wiser  ;D

As for my friend, he went on and got bored and learnt Pi to 500 decimal places. I owe him

What do you mean you wouldn't have enough wit?  Little, itty-bitty Russian children learn Russian quite well every day.  They only have the wit given them their few years.

Heh, actually, language is a matter of practice and usage.  And, the rough matter of it is, it is quite a commitment of time (simply that) to learn a new language.  You really do have to "use" it daily and for a few hours a day, and this for many years.

Then again, this perhaps is not so different from other interests that catch our fancy . . . say, aviation?  Heh.  Still, I couldn't blame anyone for being daunted to pick up a new language, any language, be it Russian or something other.  It is a long road, of sorts, to follow.
