Well done the MOD

It's just been revealed on the BBC that Harry Wales (or Prince Harry) has been serving in Afghanistan for the last 3 months. Apparently the UK media has been honouring the secrecy with a news blackout of his deployment abroad as agreed with the MOD.

The news has just become public due to it being leeked in a German newspaper and on a US website - which the MOD aren't to happy about. Seems the UK's Chief of General Staff (the head of the Army) is not happy at all.

Well done to him - there was all the fuss about him going to Iraq, and it's nice to see he got his wish to be deployed with his unit. I suppose he'll be on the next flight home now.

Seemed to me at the time that this was the obvious thing to do. I can't imagine how we're supposed to fight a war these days when every move is broadcast to the enemy in advance.

I appreciate the fact that ginger wants to be with his platoon like a normal soldier, but the fact of the matter is that he is NOT just a normal soldier - I know for a fact that if my son were in his platoon I'd be a very worried father. Well done ginger for putting the lives of god knows how many men in the face of even greater danger than they were in already.

It wouldn't suprise me if the 'leaked information' was done on purpose so that the MOD could get him out of there, whilst still having allowed him some time in action.

Seeing the coverage I think that's a little harsh - he was brought in so most people serving out there would have no idea he was there, and was doing a slightly more isolated job as a Joint Tac Air Controller with a bunch of Ghurkas. He joined the army to do a job, and he's been given to chance to do it.

Alas journalists don't give a monkeys about the lives they endanger with their idiotic broadcasting. I remember well the BBC announcing the Parachute Regiment about to commence an attack during the Falklands a couple of hours before the assault began. A number of the people involved still wish to line up all the journalists against a wall and pull the trigger

You should've seen last week's Panorama, accusing the British Army of mass murder on the basis of two leeches/lawyers trying to make more money through naive Iraqi families.

and it was all hush, no one knew he was out there so the threat to his comrades was no higher than normal.

and i just watched the report on the BBC who claimed it was a Australian magazine not a German one

I guess that's the difference between Americans and Brits.  American political figures use their power and influence to avoid having to serve in the armed forces, Brits use it the opposite way.  Well done MOD.

Naming the enemy or locals has been about since the dawn of time, but no doubt the MOD PC police will jump on that on in much the same was they did during the Falklands Conflict. The troops referred to the Falkland Islanders as "Bennies", (as in Bennie from "Crossroads" due to his woolly hat) The powers that be, decided that Bennies was not to be used when talking about the locals. So the troops renamed them..................."Stills"..............Still Bennies
