Maybe they can remake Spitting Image, then have Lord Lucan and Steve Fossett owning and operating a restaurant in Mexico.

I have to say this is about as unexpected as a number 10 bus - it had to come eventually...

I'm surprised his aircraft hasn't been found yet!

Why?, a very small aircraft lost in an area the size of some small country, England for example, that was very mountainous. In the search for him they found wreckage of other crash sights that had been missing for 20 years plus. He will be found, but just like these other crashes by accident when looking for someone/something else.
Also bearing in mind it was an aerial search, if you have ever flown and at he same time searched for something, it is quite hard. You can see a lot from above, but actually focusing in one the ground to look for a very small target is difficult. There is so much for the eyes to take in that they wander whether you want to or not, so you end up scanning , also no the best way to search.

They've found an awful lot of other lost aeroplanes though - that's how vast the search area was.

I didn't know they had found others. Any estimate on the figure?

The reports were last year, but it was at least half a dozen or so.

As soon as Steve Fossett was reported downed, I immediately fired up my Flight Sim and flew over his proposed route (as indicated in the Press) and observed just how inhospitable the territory was...!

(Nevada to Reno to Sacramento).

No chance of surviving a plane crash in such mountainous, desolate, remote territory!

One of my daily delights, is reading the latest interesting news around the World, and getting one of my Planes out of my Hangar and flying over the affected area...!

I spent many hours last Summer, trawling around the Wild Forest Fires in Southern California!

And remember the devastating Tsunami in the Pacific?

Interesting snippets of geological education...;)...!

Camden Town is a right doddle, compared with turning out time in the centre of Hereford late on a Saturday night.... :o...!

Very similar to my Cessna 152 flights around Downtown Los Angeles*...

...in between Forest Fires...and Pacific Tsunamis... ::)...!

Paul... ;D... ;D... ;D...!

Oh, I wouldnt' be too sure about that.  The guy probably had a mortgage (or other debt) just like everyone else and I'm sure the wife was having a hard time with the bills without his income keeping the family floating.  (Just because someone's exceedingly wealthy doesn't mean they have a pile of money in the bank.)
