The worst kind of ice hockey injury

I'd say this type of injury has to be the worst possible. with goalies now being required to wear neck protectors after the incident 19 years ago.
Thankfully this is a rareity.
If you care to look at the pictures, you can see by the amount of blood lost how bad it was.

Just glad he's going to be okay.

The danger of Ice Skates have always terrified me!..

...Just imagine skating over someones fingers, in a public Ice Skate Ring!.... ... ... ...!

to be honest Mr Fozzer, the first time I had my skates sharpend, I cut my finger in less than 5 minutes. I wasn't watching what I was doing when handling the skates and the blade caught the top of my finger. It didn't hurt, but it bled for hours. I had it wrapped up in bandages, took them off later that night to clean the cut, and it was still bleeding. Ever since I wear gloves to skate and make sure that my blades are covered with the guards until the last possible minute for use.

My personal preference for being able to pick my nose for the rest of my life, has always guided me away from the dangers of injuring any of my delightful, delicate, digits......!

I'd say your fingers (or any part of your body), are much safer on the skating rink; than they are on the motorcycle ride TO the rink  ;)

I did ice-skating for quite a few years up to competitive levels without anything worse than the odd graze or bruise and once concussion. Remember when you do back flips using your head as your undercarriage rather than your skates is not only painful but DOESN'T impress the girls
I've only had a couple of offs on motorbikes, twice through my own silliness (luckily low speed) and once because of a dozy blonde in a Ford Fiesta armed with a mobile phone and a lack of brain! Motorbikes are as safe as you want them to be. Of course wearing a horned helmet and wielding a chainsaw does tend to get even Volvo drivers out of your way :evil

...well after 58 years of daily motorcycling, my luck has held up quite well...so far......!

..and the nose picking is still as enjoyable...trust me... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

I just saw this on Yahoo news before I read it hear, our hometeam player, Florida Panthers in Miami.  Bad news anywhere, but close to home it hits harder.  I didn't catch local TV news last night, but will check it out tonight.  He's going to be OK, that's what counts here.  Saw something that he had the presence of mind to go to the bench before shock set in, that really helped everything.

Having your throat cut is one of the more unpleasant forms of injury.......!

the accident. Just goes to show how sharp the blades are, barely caught him. rather graphic seeing that large amount of blood come out.

Oh boy, that's serious stuff. The blood spurts out everywhere even before he hits the ground. I didn't realise the blades were so sharp. Of course at that speed the neck could be cut very easily anyway, even with a blunt blade.

It's not that dangerous. I'm sure there have been fatalities with hockey, ( I mean directly as a cause and not from other factors like a heart attack). Millions of people have died in motorcycle and car accidents. You are probably more likely to have an accident and get killed going to a venue than get a scratch during play in most sports.
On British roads 10 people die every day in accidents. I think it is over 100 per day in the US. Not really comparable.

To be fair Mark, Ice dancing is more or less safe, unless you count pairs skating but thats just silly
Ice hockey is bad enough as it is, when you add the element of sharp blades into the mix it's a mirical it's only happend a couple of times.
My dad used to play semi-pro for the army when we lived in canada, considering his balance it's amazing how he still has all fingers and toes.

I did dance and pairs. Great fun. Ice hockey is fun but a little bit rough. Great game 8-) Now rugby on ice would be fantastic!!!!!!!
