Ebay to drop sellers power to negative feedback

As said in the article, I too will never leave negative feedback as I don't wish to spoil my own 100% record. If the buyer doesn't pay he should be reported and fined or if unwilling to pay the fine have his account closed or something like that.

I think it's an excellent idea. I've never had to leave negative feedback as a buyer - but if I had to I'd have always been concerned that the seller would then use their feedback "to get even" so to speak. Sellers can then go direct to ebay's admin if they have problem buyers.

It would also be nice to see the 75% of sellers on ebay who insist on waiting until the buyer has left positive feedback start leaving feedback when they should - immediately that the buyer has done their bit and paid for the item.

Good news for buyers.

I've had quite a few bad experiences & dealt with a few rip off merchants but never dared leave negative feedback because like you guys I don't want to tarnish my record - they'd leave bad about me even though I did nothing wrong except tell of the bad, or even fraudulent, product.

They do need to build in an extra protection for sellers - something like modified feedback - though again knowing eBay - staff seem almost non existant or when they do appear they seem not to give a crap about anything except making $. (I think they spend all their time on the golf course or boat.)

There's no excuse really - with all their $b's - extraordinarily hard to contact eBay.

Which I find very surprising, considering that I've found disputes through paypal (as a buyer, for purchases outside of ebay) were settled very quickly.

As you say though, sellers do need more protection - however ebay and paypal are in a situation to police this easily, because as long as the transaction goes through paypal, it is all traceable, so the guilty party would become immediately obvious.

Its a good idea, people who don't pay should be banned, simple as that.  Same reason as everyone else...wont leave negative feedback as a buyer or a seller simply to keep my 100% rating.  But so far as a buyer and a seller I haven't had any problems...yet...there might be one brewing :-/

Had a graphics card sell Saturday night.  Went for $35 and had a $10 shipping charge for US domestic.  Put right in the description in large bold print...SHIP TO US ONLY!!!  The women that won it is from Canada...its considered international from here.  Contacted her, she said to let her know what the new shipping fee would be, went to the post office Monday, it would run about $20.  Sent her an updated invoice and a note telling her what I've found out...since then I've received about 4 emails telling me shes waiting...I've sent 4 replies saying that the charge is $20 bring total to $55...just keep getting emails saying shes waiting to hear from me >:(

Don't get my payment or don't get a reply saying its on the way by Saturday eBay will have to get involved.  How can someone miss letters in 20 point bold font saying I only ship to the US :-/  Canada is not the US lady :P

There was one time I wanted to leave a neutral, as the item was delayed and the person wouldn't answer phone calls, recorded messages or emails. I got the item eventually, but felt annoyed at "having" to leave a positive feedback.
The guy that sold us dud disks didn't get any feedback; again because he would then spoil our 100% record. Paypal took the money out of his account and gave it me back because he wouldn't do it. So, I didn't lose out, but boy what a LOT of hassle.

The best sellers leave feedback on your payment. They are among the best on ebay IMO. 8-)

One way around it though could be for ebay to make it work that a seller could only leave feedback BEFORE receiving feedback themselvves and after they had feedback left they would be unable to respond. That'd help and would be a kinda middle-way approach.

i sold a 1999 WS6 pontiac trans am a couple of years ago on ebay.

I was holding out for at least 12,000 dollars... but to my surprise it bid up to $18,000!!! i was stoked, that was well over blue book value

got a message after the auction "Sorry i did not know my son was using my account to bid on this car... i wont be buying."

the car was put back on auction and sold a week later for $11,500   :(

i needed the money and didnt complain, but it felt like someone handed me 18,000 bucks and then proceeded to burn 7,000 of it1  >:(

I have left a couple of neutral feedbacks before. Neutral does not effect your feedback %. What is annoying though is the constant emails from ebay asking you if you want to reconsider and post a positive feedback. No, I got the product, but contact, delivery and general response where pants. That in certain cases warrants a neutral feedback. Negative is (for me) taking your money when the item was not in stock and then waiting three months delivery (once) and for general dishonesty in the item report or what is/was sent. I think there should be more emphasis on neutral reporting rather than positive. When you look at the feedback reports of people it is all full of; Great service, fast delivery, nice contact (as are most internet fraudsters!) etc, really something that is down to the post office. Great service etc is face to face, per phone and that extra mile as you sometimes get in shops (not often granted). Mail order (effectively what ebay is) is very impersonal. A good neutral report should tell you the person is OK. A positive report should be able to tell you the seller went the extra mile.
