Wow. He was a great man. He will be missed by his fellow mountaineers.

Strange coincidence...I was reading up about his first climb only 2 days ago...RIP...He will be missed...His legacy on Everest still lives on in the form of Hillary Step ;)

He also made a lot of friends in those foothills... a generous, hardworking soul.  :)

Tragic loss, true explorer who, as Everest proves!, pushed the limits of what was explorable.

On a side note, he will live on, in kendal mint cake form!, his expedition  to everest took some with them and one of the party provides an anecdote about it, in the terrible conditions up there "our only complaint was, we didnt have enough!!"

This man was a REAL explorer, his party integrated with the nepalian people to gain the knowledge needed to climb the trecherous mountain.
