Wait Wait Wait - What? Hughes Mining Barge

Information is sketchy at best but - can this thing REALLY submerge? If so, that is amazing, wouldn't it be classified as a submarine though? And would the control room have windows just like any other ship (if it can submerge, that would be scary at the depth it was meant to dive to).

I don't think the HMB is self-propelled, so it wouldn't really count as a submarine... just a very large submersible barge. It may not even have a control room per se... it would be smarter (safer and simpler) to control it remotely.
It's not a new concept, really- barges that can be flooded then pumped out, used for lifting things, have been around for a long time... but it's pretty damn big, and goes very deep.
