Amongst the many human preferences for which one can devise all sorts of excuses, what is deemed frivolous?

Next on the agenda is the Superbowl. Convict Higgins will be exectuted* early on the morning following the game; in accord with new evidence on Higgins' behalf, the case for his exoneration will be the following week, whereupon it was postponed due to conflict with the game.

*Disclaimer: Not really -- we hope.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on stadiums... people pay hundreds of dollars for one seat in these stadiums to watch three hours of football... Of the countless events of this type.. this game is the biggest, most important of the year..

If several of the key interests in this trial have personal investments in the several thousands wrapped up in this already several million dollar event. Postponing the trial seems Ok to me...  A day or two delay in presenting evidence and arguing over it is no big deal.
