Got a call last night to a house fire, by the time we got there the place was completely in flames.  Problem with mobile homes is they can literally burn to the ground in 3 to 5 minutes.  After the fire was out there were 3 bodies discovered inside.  After my department was released I heard who a couple of them were after they had been identified through dental records.  One of them was a friends younger brother who I knew quite well...he was only 18 :(  The second one I had only met once before, the 3rd I never knew.  No one knows how it started, guessing it was a kerosene heater.  Possibly carbon monoxide had gotten to them first as from what I heard none of them appeared to be attempting to escape, one was found in what was left of a bed.

Its one of those deals that brings thoughts of leaving the department.  In the past I've been to wrecks where friends were being pulled from whats left of their vehicles some seriously hurt and one who was killed.  Fires that destroy a friends home.  Or even wrecks where you don't know the people but a child was involved.  Its kinda hard to take sometimes :'(

Sad indeed, but being in the fire service isn't just about attending to fires, it's also about preventing them. If one life is saved as a direct result of your involvement then job done. Please don't leave the department, you do a fantastic job.. you don't do it for the money as you're a volunteer. You do it as a service. Part of your job is to deal with things like you witnessed and my heart goes out to you.
My condolences to the young mans family and friends, and to you. :(  :(

A terrible night, but who knows tonight you might save someone and that turns it all around again and makes it all worthwhile ;)
