Gardai in Dublin are on the lookout for 36,000 pints of beer stolen from the Guinness brewery.
More than 400 kegs were stolen in what is likely to be the largest carry-out of drink this Christmas.
A man drove a truck into the yard on Wednesday, and left with a trailer containing 180 Guinness kegs, 180 Budweiser kegs, and 90 Carslberg kegs.
Police estimated the haul to be worth at least 64,000 euros (

Why waste payload space on Budweiser, I wonder? A lot of people seem to enjoy it, but it's hardly worth going to jail over... not like Guinness.

The Carlsberg was probably just for the drive home... to wet the whistle...

Back in the 70's, in my local town at the time. We had a beer truck accident. The truck tried to turn to fast and to sharp. It tipped over and spilled hundreds of cases of beer all over the road. Luckily for the beer company, they didn't have to pay for the clean up of any of the beer. It just all of a sudden disappeared. With in minutes, all the local elves and pixies had cleared the mess up.

I was one of the officers that handled the accident. We arrived in less than 10 minutes and there wasn't a single beer to be seen any where. We actually thought that the truck was empty when it crashed. That's how well the locals cleaned it up. I said to the driver, "Wow, your lucky you weren't loaded." He replied, "I was fully loaded!" Probably a dozen cars and pickups stopped, not one of them even asked me if I was ok, but they did grab all the beer that fell out as well every darned case that was on the truck!"

I think they have a different kind of Budweiser there, and it's nothing like our American Budweiser. Guinness is definitely worth going to jail over.

Wouldn't want any of it, even off the back of a lorry  ;D (confirmed beer snob). Guinness used to be a prefered alternative to real ale.

Unfortunately for the confirmed Guinness drinkers, I regret to inform you that Guinness is no longer Guinness as it used to be. Because of falling sales the recipe for brewing Guinness was changed. Guinness is in essence no longer a stout .... it's a lager with added syrup to give the flavour and look of the old classic, much the same as coke from a machine is carbonated water with a syrup added. You may as well be drinking the US budweiser.

To add another downer on the thread ..... the Guinness brewery in Dublin is under threat of closure because of the falling sales in the UK and Eire, down 40% in the last 10 years, due to increasing lager and wine sales. Guinness is brewed under license in several other countries Nigeria being one of the main ones, so the Dublin brewery is surplus to requirements and only likely to continue in operation if sales improve.

I'm sure someone will continue to brew it    ... & there's still Beamish and Murphy's - both again bought & brewed by others. Still nice though ...

I got my first taste of Guinness while being in Nigeria. It's the most popular (alcoholic) drink in the English speaking African countries, I think. You see it everywhere.

That was my first thought...lol
