Darwin award? not even close, it was his intention to play the system to get money in a very painful way. Darwin awards are about human stupidity.

It was an honourable mention, not an a Darwin Award. And if this is not about human stupidity? Darwin awards are generally about people who dive in and don't think things through, but that is not to say people who think that they have the angles covered and end up, well as this example show should be excluded.  If he had killed himself, then he would probably be short listed.................Shoot yourself with a nail gun, blame a gang of youths hoping to claim compensation/insurance, but die of your injuries.

2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.
