Very sad but I wonder if this is an example of a wider social problem this country is faced with today. Mindless vandalism done by equally mindless yobs out on the rampage. They probably videoed themselves doing it on a mobile phone. Like the senseless destruction of the bus shelter just across the road from my home that happens on a regular basis. Nothing is done about it despite the police knowing exactly who the culprits are. Until this is tackled these things will keep on happening. More & more CCTV cameras is not the answer.
From the report this could have been a lot worse. Fortunately flour & eggs can be easily cleaned off. The fact that it was done close to Remembrance Day might mean that there was a more sinister motive behind it but somehow I doubt that. If that were the case it would nave been something more permanent, like the war memorial in my home town that was defaced with swastikas this time last year.

There seems to be a trend forming in the youth of today ... in Nottinghamshire there is a gang going round nicking poppy appeal boxes from shops. What's the point ?....... there isn't that much cash in them.

Send the perpetrators to Iraq and show them what war is...my humble recommendation. :)

Doesn't work, Krigl. They would probably turn into terrorists. The solution? I have an idea but can't say it here.

It's all to typical of today's youth that have no respect for themselves, let alone their parents, or the men and women that sacrificed their lives so these useless wastes of humanity can sit around devising ways to show disrespect to those who gave them the freedoms to do so. >:(
At least in the US, if they had been caught red handed by a group of Veterans and those Veterans had beat the living hell out of of them. >:( The Veterans would be the bad guys. ::)
Hmm, wonder how they'd like it if Veterans came to their homes and desicrated them? Like taking a crap on their pillow and pissing all over their beds.
Better yet, go to the cemetery where their loved ones are buried and spray paint obscenities on their tombs.
I have far worse suggestions, but they would result in bloodshed and the removal of their abilities to reproduce morons like themselves.

I had a hunt round & found more details. The BBC is a tad late as it happened over a week ago.
http://www.horncastlenews.co.uk/news/A-CRYING-SHAME.3427632.jpAs a matter of interest I found out that Wing Commander Guy Gibson (who led the Dambusters raid) lost his life on the night of September 19/20, 1944 in a Mosquito of No 627 Squadron based at RAF Woodhall Spa.
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bombercommand/s84.htmlI also discovered that the propeller from the Mosquito Aircrew Memorial was stolen last month. The most likely reason seems to be for the scrap value. With the world shortage of raw materials nothing is sacred any more.

The world is going down the drain if there's no respect for these symbols... Luckely it wasn't anything more permanent...

Woodhall Spa is a interesting place. Apart from its war history, being home to 617Sqn post Dambusters, and being the place where Cheshire and Tait lead bombing operations in P-51s, and Gibson's last (somewhat unauthorised) flight, the town is an intriguing place, with the Petwood hotel, Kinema in the woods and a plethora of "interesting" bazaars...

One of the reasons I hate being my age right now...many members of public assume we're all as bad as these pathetic lifeforms. >:(
Horrible to hear they would do that, especially to a war memorial!

[where is that vomit smiley when we need it...almost makes you sick to hear it...]

I hope that most people realise that it's only a very small minority that do this sort of thing. Some of the worst vandals are much older than you anyway.
