Even though it was clearly an off the cuff, slightly cynical remark, even jokingly suggesting a immigration control policy on a par with some central european 1930/40s methods is not acceptable in this day and age...

Daft I know...

A remark that wasn't ment to be heard .......... sack the sound man who should have made sure the mic was dead at the appropriate time.

I've heard far worse in theatres here are some examples .....

During Panto. A well respected childeren's actress playing  the Bad Witch goes off stage after one of her spots which had the usual chorus of boos and abuse. She heads to her dressing room, unaware that the radio mic, which she should have switched off is still live, swearing and cursing about how she hates kids. Needless to say her next entrance was met with more than just abuse.

The actor who heads off stage and straight to the lav ....... once again unaware that the radio mic was live ..... the noises emanating over the PA made a rather serious scene  hillarious.

These things happen ........ and everyone is entitled to make the comments they want when they want ...... it just pays to make sure in a business where you can be overheard because of someone else's stupidity that you cover anything that picks up sound.

My worst nightmare when I used to do live sound engineering... the best is when I got up from the desk for a minute during tech rehearsals and returned to hear sounds of someone (famous) in the bathroom coming over the PA....!!!    :o
I learned early in my career to always mute any mic worn by someone who is not on stage... and to not leave my post for even a minute if there was a chance anyone would step off the stage while I was gone.  ;D

I did one show where an offstage chorus had to be picked up "blind", but most nights half of them had forgotten their cue and were chatting backstage... mortifying, but not my fault.  ;D

If any of you ever go into a job where you have to work live on stage ..... or at an event .... remember this golden rule.

NEVER P the crew off !!.... Why?  Because the crew can blame glitches in the technology for making you look like an ass  ;)

I was part of a church group that went to nashville tennessee and did music/drama/missions work for two weeks. I only had two different parts in the drama work and the rest of the time I was helping my dad do all of the audio work behind the scenes.

Well the first time I got up to say my ONE line no one heard it, all they heard was the local FM radio station that had been picked up by my wireless microphone reciever....

oh well, I was always better at behind the scenes stuff than being up front
