Lake Amphibians and the Internet

Goodmorning all... ;D

I am posting this here and not in the Real Aviation Forum for a very good reason...it is more of a rant I think and not really about the Lake Amphibian in general.

The internet is not only the largest source of information in the world, it's also the most unregulated source of anything in the world. Sometimes you just can't find what you're looking for, and other times, two heads are better than one. Here's what I turned up in a search-

http://lakeamphib.com/lakeamphib.htm This seems to be the official site. There

Why do people insert INCOMPLETE information on the internet and then not follow up on it? That makes me wonder how many other individual sites are like the Lake Aircraft one.  I find that quite frustrating

Really...Do you need or even want an answer to that? :D ;D

Good afternoon all... :)

Thanks TacitBlue have been to those two sites and did not get the information I was looking for.

Oh well someone somewhere, perhaps a Lake Amphibian owner might drop by and have some information.   ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Thanks Doug... :)

Thanks for the link, I have already contacted them and waiting for a reply.

I would really like to know what happened to the assets of the Lake Aircraft Company as it never got auctioned off.  There was talk of some body assuming the assets but there is no paper trail I can find and everyone I have contacted has said nothing.

We heard rumours the aircraft would go back into production, but again no information has come forward about this.

Myself, I am not interested in purchasing a Lake Aircraft at the present time, my curiosity got aroused by conversations with several Lake Amphibian owners at a fly in who were as puzzled as myself about what happened to the company.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Ah OK. It seems that company has a very chequered history. ;)

Shame as it always looked a nice little aeroplane to me.

Thanks Doug...I did not have that link and will check it out even further.   ;)

Perhaps I am getting off topic here so maybe I better start another thread...not sure?

But, when Supermarine built the "Walrus" and I think it was Supermarine, what general aviation aircraft followed the Walrus?

The Lake Amphibian pilots spoke about a Walrus and one of the pilots flew it during the war, along with the Canso/Catalina and Shorts Sunderland.
The pilot said the Grumman boys got the idea of the Lake Amphibian from the Walrus and they also spoke about a small civilian flying amphibian at the end of hostilities.
Do you have any idea what aircraft that would be?  I would be very curious to know as it sounded like a flying boat amphibian and not a float equipped amphibian.

Since I am already off topic, there was a one (1) hour television show on yesterday, Friday October 12th, 2007 about Float Planes, Flying Boats and their operations in Canada.
It spoke about the Water Aviation School in Red Lake Ontario, Canada, now not sure that was the correct name but I am sure the location was correct.
I saw the program about two thirds from the end and it was awesome, what got my attention was a film clip about the United States Military's Douglas DC-3/C47 on amphibious floats going up a ramp.  Now I thought this thing was only on floats and there was only one produced.  Would love to see the program in it's entirety.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I'm not finished yet. Here's another photo of the Seagull. (Supermarine was part of Vickers.) http://1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/Braas/4178.htm

And here's your DC-3 on floats. ;) http://www.douglasdc3.com/float/float.htm

Good evening folks... :)

Wow...those are wonderful shots of the Douglas DC3/C47 on amphibious floats Doug.

Those floats today would cost a fortune, but they can still make them and better too.
They can actually put bilge pumps in them to pump out each compartment separately.

Thanks Simviatur for that link, have been there and seen the Grumman Tadpole.

Folks the show I saw yesterday and several weeks ago still gives evidence that "Amphibious Flying Boats and Amphibious Float Aircraft" are being looked at again and not just by general aviation for recreational flying, but commercial and military operators are taking another serious look at these aircraft configurations.
We may just see Canadair come out with a STOL long range four (4) engine amphibian flying boat in the near future with a wheel/ski compatibility. This idea has been kicked around now for more than ten years here, now with a change in government it just might become a reality.  Lets hope so.  :)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
