Canadian painter Ken Danby dies at 67

Renowned artist Ken Danby, one of Canada's foremost realist painters, has died at age 67.

Danby died Sunday while canoeing in Algonquin Park, according to Greg McKee, the manager of the Danby Studio in Guelph, Ont.

It's believed Danby died of a heart attack, but the cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is completed, McKee said.

Danby is best known for his 1972 painting At the Crease, showing a masked hockey player. The egg tempera work hangs in reproduction in countless homes of Canadian hockey lovers.

Coming from the UK I've never heard of him but can't deny that's a fantastic painting, almost like a photo  :o
Always sad to see super talented people leave us.

That's a painting???

Yes, and made by the same type of paint many of us played with, drank, or otherwise just wasted in primary school. ;D

Well, technically it's a digital photo of a painting displayed on your monitor.  :)

I'm amazed that's a painting as well.  Incredible.

I'm usually pretty indifferent to photorealist painting (why not a photo? ), but you have to respect the effort and skill.

Definately photo-realist school!  It is nice to see someone mention something about the visual arts here on SimV.  Too bad it is a note of passing.

best,

Imagine what you may have done if you'd put them where they belonged -- and remained so much saner, too! ;D
