How not to endear yourself to Airport securityWhat I really love about it is how she's described by friends:
Caine Jette, a fellow sophomore at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and member of the Hawaii Club, told ABCNEWS.com. "She's relatively impulsive. Sometimes she walks around without her shoes on."
:-? Radical........no shoes eh? There's knockabout fun with those MIT kids eh?

As the police spokesman said, "extremely lucky she followed the instructions or deadly force would have been used, she's lucky to be in a cell as opposed to the morgue."
Just goes to show, intelligence fit for MIT does not mean you have any common sense.

Would have been a victory for natural selection if she'd been shot.

All too often it seems. I've met a lot of people who have plenty of one, but are frighteningly lacking in the other.

The old description passed on from (or before?) my grandfather's era:
"educated fools"

People like this really piss me off....... 99.9% of the time they are doing s*** like this just to get attention, the other. 1% cause there suicidal. Seriously, National security isn't a joke, this isn't funny and she should be persecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and then for good measure send her to the middle east wearing that shirt and see how many bullet holes end up in her, people die every single day in other places on earth and here she is acting like a jacka**........ pisses me off

I live near Boston. The local press has a few details that are not in this linked article. She was not IN the airport terminal buildings she was outside it NEAR Terminal C....and was wating to pick up a friend on an inbound flight. She asked a curbside attendant when the flight was arriving. The shirt's saying relates to an HONORS course program at MIT for the best and brightest.
Basically I think this is an over reaction once again by the Boston area authorities like they did with the digital "posters" that were posted around town for the TV show that shut down the center of town for a long while (I was in town that day).
LOOK at he device in the linked image......... it should have been evident in a simple glance that it was not a "hoax bomb" for god's sake. It is high tech art jewelery. Could an assesment mistake be made for a few seconds at a quick glance by a untrained person ........ sure. But to charge her with a hoax device is patent absurdity.
Are we now going to arrest someone that is wearing or carrying anything that has a flashing LED on it?
Give me a break!
best,
.......................john

OK.... by that logic we should not allow anyone with a cell phone or an Ipod in or near the airport either?

well I some what agree with you but, where do we draw the line?! Yes, cell phones and laptops are ok, but this is clearly something extraordinary. A computer chip attached to a nine volt and wires is clearly something made to imitate a bomb, and i think that it just crosses the line. And, now I'm done before those sans-a-belt wearing, bueraucratic, fearmongers come into the dissucision (politics)
(Dontread quickly closes broswer and fires up his battlefield 2 demo ;D) I'm cheap ;D

I don't know, to wear a shirt that has a wired breadboard on it to the airport really doesn't seem like the brightest idea to me. I agree that anyone who knows a bit about electronics would see it and know that it wasn't really anything but a goofy little flashing light, but to someone who doesn't know what it is, it looks almost exactly like a bomb that you would see in a movie or television show, which is the only time 99.9% of the population would ever see anything that looks remotely like a bomb. Think of this, what would the response have been if she was carrying a bit of fertilizer in a paper bag and a water bottle full of diesel fuel? That would look just like someone with a bag lunch and a bottle of water, so I can't really blame the authorities for being a bit edgy about things like this.
But that's just getting paranoid, so I think I'm just going to risk it, and next time I see someone at the airport with a paper bag and a bottle of water, I'll let them eat their lunch.
