Arizona - Dry heat.

I spent a week in Phoenix once.  100 Fahrenheit, 10% humidity - great golf.

Try walking the same course in S. Florida - 90 Fahrenheit, 90% humidity.

It ain't the heat, it's the humidity.

yea but I like Arizona  ;D  Winters are absolutely fantastic so I don't mind waiting out the heat to get it  ;)  Also some of our summer storms are the coolest I've seen.  Whenever it rains you have 30sec. warning before your totally soaked and then you just have to wait 20 minutes for it to stop.

Theres some tropical storm (mans name with um.. ita? at the end lol) Don't remember right now but its headed right for me, wont bring many winds but their saying its going to make the weekend really wet  8-)  should be fun  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I'm always curious about you Folks who live in Nevada and Arizona.

To "F" who lives in the "lush greenery" of England, I always recall the old Cowboy films where Nevada and Arizona were always a dry and dusty Desert, with Rattle-Snakes, and spiky Cactus plants...
...(and Cowboys)...and not much else!

Hey Paul. the southwest being a desert is arrid but not necessarily always hot. In the higher altitudes it can get quite nippy very fast. Winters in Albuquerque, NM average around 40-45

Yeah Paul, it's really that dry in most of the southwest. There just isn't enough precipitation. There is some farming in semi-arid eastern New Mexico thanks to irrigation. Typical crops are milo and cotton. It's also a fantastic area to hunt quail and pheasant(yummy ). Most of northern and some of eastern Texas isn't too dry, much like the other plains states.
The reasons for the lack of moisture can be atributed to the Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains which act as barrier for moisture-laden air. It does get hot, but like Webb stated it's so dry that it feels cooler. Perspiration evaporates quickly, which means you have to be sure to keep hydrated. I could easily go through two canteens of water for about every 3-4 hours of rock climbing in the Sandia Mountains.

I have a (very) large, highly detailed, relief Map of California, which also covers parts of the the States of Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, and Oregon, (but not Texas Yee-Haw!... ...), so much most all my daily Sim flying is spent exploring these fascinating places with my trusty Map at my elbow!

I often wonder if watching too many old Cowboy Films over the years has affected my vision of certain dry and dusty States.. ... ...!

I can never find many places of actual Human habitation (buildings) in the Arizona and Nevada deserts whilst flying over them in the Sim!

You are a long way from the Sea...(eg: LOTS of Water!)....!!

Yes the houses are usually single story and flat roofs. And as far as rain or snow,  we may not get as much rain as you do but when it does its really cool  ;D   Ive said this before but once it starts you have about 30 sec. to get inside before your drenched. 20 min. later its over as fast as it started.  And for snow,  amazingly we had some this year (so much for global warming  :P) But keep in mind this is the second time in 10 years the snow has stuck lol



Also search Google video or youtube for "Tucson Rain" to see what its like during summer.  Quite fun

Blimey, It does look desolate and isolated there!
A few houses surrounded by waste, and overgrown land!

What is it like for the inhabitants living there?

Do they have an overwhelming urge to want to escape?...LOL... ...!

What sort of jobs are available?
How far to the nearest Town?
Major roads?
...etc...

I always imagine "deserts" being inhospitable places for Humans to live... ...!
