Having a Blast at the Beach

Well, not me, although I've some beaches and a fireworks factory close by...
Surf City, NJ, put up some new beach regulations last Memorial Day. People were told not to dig over a foot nor use metal detectors.
The Army Corps said that it will be disastrous if any of the ordnance that they accidently 'beached' actually exploded. Well over a thousand units have already been removed.

We proved we could dish it out... now we'll show 'em we can take it and keep it to ourselves, too.

I read an article and it says the ordance is from WWI! Now the Army Corp of Engineers wants the Surf City Government to pick up some of the tab. The Government leaders response was "Why would we pay for there mistake?"

Which would be like paying for it twice since some of their tax money is already paying for the cleanup (and our predecessors' taxes paid for the ordnance and its disposal). Of course, if any of it did explode, they'd be paying for it in another way.

I'd say, close the beach for a day, lob a couple of grenades into the areas you know have the problems and enjoy the fireworks as they set each other off all up the beach. Team with a movie set and you'll have a perfect recreation of the d-day beaches. ;D
