Well, I think I finally have found a bigger waste of money than the B-2 Bomber...  ;)

Just another piece of equipment that can go wrong. Besides UAV Pilots, we'll have even more desk jockey/nerds earning their 'combat action badges' while sitting in their air conditioned office in the middle of a green zone.

My question is, what happens if it jams...? lol ;D

The machines had a tendency to spin out of control from time to time

;D Put a gun on that thing, why dont ya...

And by the way, im not confindent that that little robot would be able to keep the M249's recoil under control, although my idea of the M249's recoil is based entirely on video games  ;)

The M249 Squad Automatic Weapon is a belt fed 5.56 caliber machine gun which has a buffer/recoil spring to reduce the recoil. It's been a LONG time since i've fired one, but the recoil is probably similar to an M-16's recoil

It's the same, but an M-16 at 1000 rounds per minute will still give quite a kick... 8-)

I wouldn't say that this is useless. We will eventually make improvements on this "fighting robot".  I think when this is perfected lives will be saved. This is a good idea IMO.

Too many exposed optics
Too slow (its MADE to go slow because the original design had to be slow)
Too well known exterior signature (its a friggin bomb disposal crane) Any smart opfor over there knows what it is... putting a FN beltfed on it wont make it less a target

Basically its like yelling 'setal my SAW'

"A three-part arming process -- with both physical and electronic safeties -- is required before firing."
Who's doing the 'physical' arming and does it take both hands? More importantly, when? If it's on location, I could be firing back and ducking for cover in the few seconds time it takes to arm it [He gave his life for his robot, unarmed so his robot could be].

"Most importantly, the machines now come with kill switches*, in case there's any odd behavior."
*Great electronic triggers! Isn't that the point of shooting in a combat zone? ;)

"So now we can kill the unit if it goes crazy,"
Graciously saving the enemy the effort?

I do expect increased efficiency in automated units of all types and sizes. During my story writing days from 6th grade on, I had nuclear weapons deliveries by model aircraft. There are actuallly insect-sized surveillence units now -- I think I swatted one just the other day... it's now a million dollar smear...

:'(
