Can someone explain this one to me?

I've just heard on the Hungarian news that the EU is proposing to ban all traditional barometers, thermometers and blood pressure gauges because they contain mercury on the grounds it is dangerous to the environment (true and sensible).
However they're busy promoting the use of energy efficient light bulbs that are also full of mercury and which when they die most people just throw out in the ordinary rubbish whence they can go on and pollute far better than the aforementioned devices... err WTF? ::) ::) ::)
I need something for the headache this is giving me...... single malt medication for preference ;D
The world has gone mad, does anyone have a large room with rubber wallpaper we can put it in until it feels better?

It is the EU. They do not have to explain themselves. They are the master, you just do as you are told.

Matt

PS Like the friends of my parents who have a 300 year old house built into a rock face. As it is a guest house, they have been told that they have to fit a lift for disabled guests to get to the second and third floor by the EU.  They are not allowed to put it in view due to it being a listed building, so they have been told to put it into the rock face inside the house. Have you tried drilling granite, either that or explosives in your front room ::)

I can remember, at school, (long-long-ago), in our Science Lab/Class Room, when we had a large earthenware jar full of liquid Mercury which we all played with, watching it roll around our hands, poked our fingers in it, etc....as you do...

.....none of us became impotent, grew excessive bodily hair, became Moderators/Politicians.....or died....you will be delighted to know...;)...!

LOL... ;D...!

Paul... 8-)...!

I was going to post this earlier but I'm glad I waited. You have a much better way of putting these things than me. :D

Sometimes Doug I just seem to be able to find the right turn of phrase for the moment..... on other occasions I open my mouth and say things I really shouldn't before my brain can stop me ;D

If you failed in society and are a loser in general you can always become a politician. Bunch of arseholes, no matter which country in the world they come from.

Just my two cents,

Crash ;)

Another thing you might not have thought about. Like many people of my generation I have amalgam fillings in my teeth which contain mercury. I'm told this is perfectly safe but when I pop my clogs they will insist on removing my gnashers before sending me to the crematorium in order to meet the health & safety regulations. ::) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/newspapers/sunday_times/scotland/article402237.ece

Hell and here I thought such stupidity was an American concept....lmao

This is almost as bad a Orange County Virginia's refusal to allow a furniture plant to be built because it would use chemicals that could not only be hazardous to the environment, but they could explode and cause a tremendous fire. Ok, this seems reasonable, right?

Well, the same year they approved a ROCKET FUEL factory!!! :o

This went way above and beyond stupidity into an entirely new classification.... ::)

No, but I have another solution with a little drawback - the death of more than six billion human beings. ;P

Well if I had a large portion of curried cabbage washed down with Guiness one of my farts could easily wipe out a large part of the population of the Northern Hemisphere ;D

Was that one of the previously mentioned 'blurt-it-out-before-your-brain-can-stop-you' moments? ;)
