Is Google big brother?

I've seen a few articles over the months about Google and privacy concerns.  I never really payed any attention to them.  However, this got my attention.  The chief executive of Google said he wants google to eventually get to the point that it will be able to recommend jobs to online users.  George Orwell's 1984 anyone?

I also ran across this.  A search engine that proxies google but scrubs google's ability to collect data on the user.

What's wrong with Google helping people find jobs? Here in Florida, it's hard enough as it is to find a decent job that pays decently. The only reason I managed to land a job at Walgreens is because my mom knew a friend who works there. ::)

Besides, there are already other major websites like Job Corp, etc. that do the same thing. How can Google possibly compete against those?

The difference is the user goes to those sites and voluntairily enter their info.  How would you like to one day go to google to do a search on Superbowl XIX stats and it pops up with a notification "Hey Katahua, there's a Wallgreen just 1 1/2 miles from your house with a manager position open, with your background, you'd be perfect for it!"

They wouldn't bother with me, all it'd say would be "You're a sad muppet Brit living in Hungary, there are many schools you can apply for a job with. Pay is pitiful, verbal abuse plentiful!" ;D

Well unless people start opening vast amounts of porn shops that need staffing, then I fear Google will soon run out jobs to recommend.  ;D

That would certainly be an improvement. From what I've read, job boards such as Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com post fake jobs. You won't catch me posting my r

I think it must just be where you guys live. Whenever I used an agency I was always impressed with how well they treated me and how good they were at getting me work both long and short-term.

I agree. It would also depend on the agency. My ex worked for an agency for a while after we got married. They always treated her well & she gained a lot of experience she wouldn't have got in a regular job. She ended up as a company secretary. My daughter did the same to pay the bills while looking for a decent job. One company she worked for was so impressed they offered her a permanent position.
