Star Gazing with the kids...

Well, I picked up a new telescope today. It's an older Meade DS90. These were one of the first GoTo scopes and to be honest, were set with problems from the time they first came off the line. The drives were weak, and aligning the GoTo was problematic at best. But I wanted a cheap scope I could toss in the trunk and not worry about it much if it were damaged. The wifey came home the other day and mentioned she saw one in a thrift store, and I stopped to check it out. Long story short, I bought it and off I went.
Now I haven't been able to take the twins out much for stargazing as they are only five and not really able to get into things like this until recently. I hooked it up, and before I even finished, Alexander was all over it wanting to look through it and play with the controls. After setting it up, I tuned in Venus by hand (remember, the GoTo sucks on these) and had a nice big white disc to look at. Alexander took a look at the moon and he was completely floored. :) He simply could not get enough of this. Olvia took a look and promptly stated "Ohh, it's so dirty!"
Later, I caught her laying still in the grass and when I asked her what she was doing, she said she was watching the moon. 8-)
Awesome time, even if it was a cheapie scope...
