I think thats a good thing...

...actually, I don't think we should put her in jail at all.

All this is just giving her publicity...

...shes going to get her own camera crew and a new show on MTV, and a book deal after she gets out.

...and that buddy shes gonna make in prison? Shes gonna get a show and a book deal too... ::)

Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said.

So all you have to do is turn up to court, and you get your sentence reduced by half? :-?

If the person had been anyone other then a celebrity they would have EXPECTED then to be at the hearing. Not reward them for being so kind as to put aside their "busy" schedule to make it in. Anyone else would most likely been in for much longer without the time cut.

Todays judges need some serious re-evaluations.

WOWZERS.... :o...!!

That's news to me...>>>>

"Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said".

Over here in England they all get banged up in the same prison as all the other Toe-Rags, (and get interfered with, as you would expect), like it or not!!

Perhaps Paris's Prison is a wing of the Hilton Hotel..?

LOL... ;D...!

Paul.... 8-)...!

Over here in England she would probably be sent to an Open Prison like Ford & allowed to do exactly as she pleases. http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/crime/article2002049.ece

That's if they have accomodation available of course. If there is no room at the inn she would be told to be a good girl & not do it again. ::)

I think it goes like this all over the world. If you have some kind of status or money or you got your face on tv a few times, you can get away with almost anything. I've seen it here in Holland where 'famous' (read rich) persons get away with murder, rape and other serious crimes. Well known criminals get a heart surgery without waiting for a long time like the rest of us, just because they have to appear in court. As long as your not famous or rich you can die for all they care.......

Crash ;)

You got that right, here in Germany as I recall after Chancellor Kohl was defeated, he was put up on corruption charges. Basically he refused to go to court saying it was beneath  him and instead payed a small fine. I am sure Bj

Seeing she is who she is... ::) for her own safety she needs to be away from other prisoners. It's not special treatment, but appropriate. Prisons are responsible for the safety of prisoners. Besides, it's not like she has committed murder - let's keep this in perspective - if she had I wouldn't care.  :P

Not wanting to defend her, you do have a point. There are people who would want to harm her purely because of who she is, i.e got a couple of quid in the bank and is famous. They would just want to be know as the person who managed to land one one her and that is not why she was/is being sent to prison. You cannot condone her getting assaulted in prison just because you do not like her or what you think she stands for. She is going because she was convicted of a crime, not because the idea of her getting a good seeing to by the head lesbian would fore fill a few fantasies. Unfortunately I think where it all falls apart is when she gets out. Book, TV show, film, book by her roomy etc etc well you get the picture. Shame she is not going down in the UK. That part is forbidden by law.

Keeping things in perspective here, she's serving jail time for driving on a suspended license.  I don't think driving on a suspended license deserves a LOT of jail time, but given the circumstance (license suspended for drunk driving and a previous conviction for driving on the suspended license) some jail time is in order.  If her license had been suspended for failing to pay parking tickets and this was a first offence then jail time wouldn't be warranted.  But here some is.  Not much, but some.

Was her original sentance too strong?  Perhaps, but I don't think reducing it makes it too lenient, since we're only talking about a short term.  (If this had been a grand theft conviction reduced from 10 years to 5 that may be different).  And just because she's going to be in a smaller population of prisoners doesn't make prison a walk in the park.  She's still going to jail, only now they'll be better able to insure her safety.

Speaking of "jail" it's kind of sad that the thing people fear the most about jail isn't the loss of freadom, it's being subjected to violence from the fellow inmates.  Is this how a nation should punish criminals?  By letting other criminals beat them up or sexually assault them?  I don't know what prison is really like, but I hope it isn't like it is portrayed in the movies.  I hope that the government does a better job at protecting criminals from eachother than hollywood believes.

I believe you are right. The prison guards leave them to it. I watched a program and the guards testified that they get these thugs going to prison for the first time and coming in all full of themselves they think they all so strong. He said within a few days they are quickly put in their place and the older prisoners soundly show them who's boss. Some of our jails have 8 men to a room where it should only house 4 and so volence is common. True they get good TV, computer access, pool tables and the lot, but if your place happens to be with some nasty bullying body builders - prison must really suck.

Having seen a few programs on discovery and other channels (admittedly, they are there to thrill and shock) I have my doubts.

Prisons are responsible for the safety of prisoners.

Absolutely true Ben, but the law & consequences should be the same for everyone. Paris is old enough to be responsible for her own actions & if she fears prison so much then she should've made an effort to look after herself & not trust everybody around her.

I mean really, how difficult can it be to remember that you can't drive until a certain date - it's not exactly hard.

Incidentally, I see some people mentioning about her writing a book about her time in prison, but I can hardly see a poorly punctuated 23 page pamphlet setting the world on fire.
