Just read this on Wikipedia. A real shame to see such a lovely Cruise Liner come to this.

It's not just a boat, when you have been on a cruise for a few weeks you really get the feel of the ship, something like this isn't too good.

This is what I do not like about Wiki:
The ship sank on April 6, 2007, after having run aground near the Greek island of Santorini the previous day.

Thats not true. The automaitic water tight doors activated and the ship although listing 12 degrees was never in any danger of sinking. Its currently being engineering reviewed for repair

[quote]the ship had taken on water and listed 12 degrees, but was stabilized when watertight doors were activated.

Passengers were taken by a small ferry and small boats to the island

Captain Charged in Cruise Ship Sinking

[quote]The stricken vessel was evacuated in a three-hour operation, but Jean-Christophe Allain, 45, and his 16-year-old daughter, Maud, from Doue-la-Fontaine in western France were listed as missing, feared to have been trapped in their flooded lower-deck cabin.

A three-day search has found no trace of them; [b][i]officials said a robot submarine would investigate the hulk

Because there is no such thing as an unsinkable ship.

That is a real shame regarding the captain. Its a real shame regarding the procudures, obviosuly in an emergancy the crew will be under alot of pressure, but for a cruise line (and correct me: But these Liners are supposed to have official safety standards, because Americans and Britains were onboard - this is only MY guess..reason being tour operators only operate with safety remarked lines?). This kind of thing is very rare, and i can imagine a few people running into doubt about cruise travel. This was a crew error, NOT a ship error. I still think this has got to be a very safe way of a vacation..

First officer: "Let's reenact Titanic!"
Captain: "Okay."

Beware of push-button sailors and half-hearted safety drills... beware...

Not sure about liners, but many large commercial vessels nowadays  don't even have a human on watch at all times.

This is the first I heard of any missing pax... just terrible; a tragic mistake, apparently.
