Just read this on Wikipedia. A real shame to see such a lovely Cruise Liner come to this.

It's not just a boat, when you have been on a cruise for a few weeks you really get the feel of the ship, something like this isn't too good.

Thats not true. The automaitic water tight doors activated and the ship although listing 12 degrees was never in any danger of sinking. Its currently being engineering reviewed for repair

Because there is no such thing as an unsinkable ship.

That is a real shame regarding the captain. Its a real shame regarding the procudures, obviosuly in an emergancy the crew will be under alot of pressure, but for a cruise line (and correct me: But these Liners are supposed to have official safety standards, because Americans and Britains were onboard - this is only MY guess..reason being tour operators only operate with safety remarked lines?). This kind of thing is very rare, and i can imagine a few people running into doubt about cruise travel. This was a crew error, NOT a ship error. I still think this has got to be a very safe way of a vacation..

Beware of push-button sailors and half-hearted safety drills... beware...

Not sure about liners, but many large commercial vessels nowadays  don't even have a human on watch at all times.
