YOUR diet and Fitness Tips...

Following my thread below, and realising quite a few people are in the "same" boat as me, or are just looking to further improve their health, i thought it would be good to list YOUR fitness and Dietry plans.

E.g Monday: What food i ate, exactly what i do at the gym.

Here's my schedule so far

Start with my Excerising:

Mon: Have no breakfast, eat a sandwhich at dinner with salad included. Have a light snack just before entering the gym after college, and then after college, its usually a low fat (3%) hot meal at home. No sugary drinks or anything.

Tues: NO breakfast, have a normal salad assorted sandwhich at dinner, then a light evening meal

Wed: SAME as Monday

Thurs: Light breakfast(generally beans on toast or something), Sandwhich usually have salad on it. And a late evening meal.

Fri: SAME AS MONDAY

Sat: Beans on toast (generally) for Breakfast, Sandwich at dinner, and for evening meal it is generally homecoked, such as Steak in Sauce, with assorted Fresh Veggies.

I can see MYSELF there is a few problems with my diet.. Such as the lack of breakfast, and lack of fruit. Any "Nice" breakfast ideas for a chap who has been used to having "fry-ups" for the past 5 years? LOL

My EXCERISE plan:

I go to the gym on MON, WED, FRI, SUN. I generally do in total 60mins cardio, 20mins weights.

Here's my plan in detail:

Treadmill: 20mins
Cross trainer: 20mins
Bike: 10mins
Other Bike: 10mins

And then an assorted 20mins on the Weights room.

------

So there's my general plan, have you got any safe and practical Fitness/DIET plans? ... Also hows mine going.. Insult me... make comments!
LOL

You might think im been a bit obsessive over this "Dieting and fitness" thing, but ive got a LONG way to go, and i thought i'd find any tips/enhancements!

I feel great, today whilst i was on the treadmill i actually thought, "Can i be bothered to do this?".. its just the mind! I'm gonna stick to it!

So please go ahead, and lets see if we have any differences!

Cheers Chaps!

Someone said to me today "...Things can only get better"...

It's good that you've got a good structure there Jimbo-I just run 2 miles every morning, do 100 situps and 50 pushups and that's that.

Hi mate. Something I have been told by a gym guru.

Always eat breakfast. Something healthy, cereal for instance. Your more tempted to eat a large lunch to make up for it if you dont. if you eat three balanced meals a day you will suceed much faster.

Fozzers tip....

Breakfast, Dinner, Tea, and Supper in that order....
...every day of the week...just like your Mum used to do...

Don't miss a meal out, because your tummy clock will produce acid Bile ready to digest the meal....
...and without a meal for it to digest the Bile will attack the walls of your stomach causing Ulcers from which you will certainly die....horribly... :o...!
...trust me...;)...!

That's a good enough reason for me to enjoy cooking amazing, tasty, good-for-me meals every day....
...and the fat free, sugar free, salt free, quality means that I don't put on weight..
...so I don't need to go leaping about, and wearing myself out, with all this daft exercise malarky.... ;D...!
LOL... ;D...!

Paul....Stuffing his face and still only 150 Lbs... 8)...!

Breakfast is very important, they say the most important meal of the day, expecially if you're trying to become more healthy because it is the meal that jump-starts your metabolism in the morning and allows you to process everything better than if you skip it.  Be sure to eat breakfast, as long as it's not donuts and Pepsi.  Also, like Alonso said, drink lots of water, 64 ounces per day is recommended, but you shouldn't drink more than 8 ounces at a time.  If you do exercise alot, it's good to have a sports drink of some kind as they replace salts (Potassium, Sodium, and other electrolytes) that you lose in persperation.  If you don't sweat a lot though, don't drink sports drinks, as they are loaded with more sugar than a Mountain Dew usually.  Other than that, it's important to try to get at least a half-hour to an hour of exercise (activity that elevates your heart rate) and to eat foods that aren't full of sugar, fat, cholestorol, etc., although it is important to not cut those out of your diet (in my opinion, for example the Atkins diet helps you lose weight by cutting out carbohydrates, but it doesn't help you become healthier, and you usually gain the weight right back after the diet).  Those are the guidelines I try to live by on a day-to-day basis, but usually there's cheating here and there.  Also, if you go on a diet, be ready to live with it for a long time, so try to fix things that you'll like, even if you have to cheat a little bit, and you'll probably find you'll have much more success if you actually like what you're eating, and it's healthy. ;)

I've heard all this waaay too much as my mom is now  health food/organic food crazy, so I've been living like this for years now. :P ;D

Hi Jimbo. I'm not the right person to give advice as I've never been on a diet in my life. However, I've seen my ex-wife's & daughter's diets over the years (women are always dieting whether they need it or not) & in most cases what they were allowed was far more than they already ate & certainly more than I ever did. :o

I think you could do with some professional advice & help. A balanced diet is a matter of eating the right things & there's no point at all if you don't enjoy your food or starve yourself. This leaflet might give you some ideas. http://www.nutrition.org.uk/upload/BNF%20Healthy%20Eating(1).pdf

What's all this about salad? That might be fine in the summer but the winter's approaching fast. No reason why you can't have a few chips & even a small beer if you wish. How about a couple of boiled eggs with soldiers or even some grilled bacon for breakfast. Use your imagination.

I think too much exercise on what you're eating now might not be such a good idea. Could you not cycle or even walk to college instead of going to the gym? Go for a nice walk in the countryside at weekends or take up some hobby to get you out in the fresh air.

Hi Doug. Thanks for the reply.

I live in the Rural Part of Sheffield, lovely countryside, so i do tend to do 30mins walking each night with the Dogs. Regarding the Salad. I dont usually have salad for my tea or Dinner..(Down south ;)) in the winter, because its Cold, and you need a nice hot meal. I still do that, but I only have a salad sandwhich + some form of meat in the sandwhich at Lunch time. Its always usuallly a fresh homecooked meal of some sort of Dinner Time and i think they are better for you..Surely a fresh homecooked organic meal with Veg is better for you than a frozen low fat meal?

I enjoy the gym Doug, it gets me away from all lifes problems, I have a slight depression, only very slightly, nothing much i can do about it, and its not that bad. Part of it is probally down to my weight, but when i go to the gym, the outside world is left behind, i work on my own, gives me time to think about "Life", and gives me a break from the long day ive had at College..Which usually involves sitting infront of a computer for 6 hours, so its always nice to have an hour or two afterwards working out.

Problem is with todays society people are looking at the 21st Century Techniques, and alot of it is good, but alot of it isn't what it says it is. Which is the main reason im posting on here, i know alot of the members are older, have experience and teach a thing or two.

I dont believe in these "Diets" which are about, all i do is eat healthy, and excercise as much as i can.

Cheers Doug

James

I admire your determination but just be careful. This latest obsession with healthy eating & exercise worries me. The way I see it, the do-gooders have won against the smokers so they need another part of the community to pick on. They seem to conveniently forget that this could easily cause serious eating disorders like anorexia & bulemia, especially in young women.

I suspect the slight depression you mention might well be the cause of your being overweight. It's a Catch 22 situation really but if you could stop worrying about it the pounds might drop off. (Hagar's theory. ;))
