Is the world going nuts or what.....?

Postby Sir_Crashalot » Tue Mar 13, 2007 2:58 am

Last week a woman in Belgium killed her four children and tried to commit suicide, a few days ago a married couple tried to commit a collective suicide by taking tablets. Two children and the mother died, the father survived and is arrested. Yesterday a 32 year old man stabbed his mother in-law and killed himself and his two sons (4 and 6 yrs old) by jumping in front of a train on a railroadcrossing.

Is it me or is this world going nuts? I know these things happen but lately there seem to be more of these cases then before.

Hmm... if it's anywhere around my school I'd pin the blame on a) bored kids jumping a train to get out of class, or b) insane teachers jumping a train to get out of class

But on the serious side... it does seem to be increasing... No doubt somebody's going to blame the internet or TV or something, but this time I think I have to agree...  :(

Doesn't say a much for your school. ::)

Violent domestic crime definitely seem to be more common now & can happen anywhere. Take this strange event that happened only a couple of weeks ago a short walk from where I'm sitting. http://www.theargus.co.uk/mostpopular.var.1217989.mostviewed.man_stabbed_to_death_and_woman_seriously_injured.php

During the last two or three years there had been three (or more) suicides where I've lived.
Two were guys that went to my school, one was the mother of a guy that graduated with me.

Considering that the area where I've lived is actually very "normal", that's very unusual....and all the three of 'em didn't have any large social problems.

Sick of being happy and bored?

Oh the media. The media is just a place where they collect all the bad news and give it to you in one package so you think that the world is going to end.  >:(

I have got to the sad position of this being just another news story. Nothing really surprises me any more.

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Global media is a two edge sword.  It's always a good thing to be well informed.  But that puts alot of power into the media to shape and mold opinions.  The media's role is morphing from a news reporter to a news maker.

Global media is a good thing, but that puts responsibility on us consumers of the media to be more savvy with what we digest and how we digest it.
