What was negative. The book was outstanding and the film did a good job to portray this, unlike most book to movies today that add a little spice, so that (sorry) the US audiences are catered for.

Replace "negative" with "bad".
P.S: German war movies are excellent. Unless you're Clint Eastwood, you could never make historically correct, unbiased movies like "Das Boot", "Der Untergang" or "Stauffenberg" in any other country.
