The author of many excellent books, among them the famous "Das Boot" ("The boat"), died yesterday aged 89.

Das Boot, one of the few films that do the book justice.

Now that's a negative message that makes me a bit sad.

That guy knew how to write...

What was negative. The book was outstanding and the film did a good job to portray this, unlike most book to movies today that add a little spice, so that (sorry) the US audiences are catered for.

Sad. :(

Das Boot will always stand as the best submarine movie ever! 8-)

Replace "negative" with "bad".

P.S: German war movies are excellent. Unless you're Clint Eastwood, you could never make historically correct, unbiased movies like "Das Boot", "Der Untergang" or "Stauffenberg" in any other country.

Or Stalingrad! Saw this the other night at my friends (with English subtitles) and I have to say I was moved. Brilliant is the only word for it.
