Before I'll start ,Do we have a trekie(STAR TREK)fan here?
I saw a HBO documentary about a society of super fan of people who seems who lives in the Star trek world in the real life ,I heard about it once, But I never specs was so hudge.many lifes like this.

Each belong to a group call the "federation of Planet" and sub groups as if they were in a spacecraft, they mosly claims that they haven't being well accepted by the society, so as big fan of this Movies and tv shows, they dress up as klingons,Borgs, and the rest of the costumes of Star trek and gather as a group, and claim that that star trek is a filosophy making some sort of fan club.

Of course we all heard of this conventions, But I never though the took it home, and live in a eternal convention..

I though It was only In USA ., :owell Im surprise Yugoslavia, Brazil, spain,England,Australia has this Clubs..the most interresting thing is that they help people, they gather money for the helping chindren with cancer.(They do a lot of charity works) :o

I respect others people life style, but as a personal fan of star trek, star wars , I woudln't never ever wear a costume and worth walk on the street like that ,no matter how reject,no matter how lonely I am
I think I got my feet on the ground , I wouln't live Gene Roddenberrys scripts as a part of my life ,what's the deal? ....the worst, there are many are much , older than me :o,.
Many lives and work just for buying stuff from it,costumes ,surveniers,Toys..

Real actors from any of these series are being chasing by this people..That's a creepy thing as the lady who cast cap. Janeway Saids..

Do you think this is normal ,Or without offending, could be a psicological issue?

Im fan of real stars ,Cosmology as Sidewalker Astronomer,But I ain't wearing a shirt all day,I just made my scopes and when something goes on (Like last mars approach) I took in a public place with a group of student of phisics from the university to show free to the public the real universe..

When I see this, I see the future of Stargate fans. I'm a Stargate fan, btw. Now, if you don't mind, I have a meeting with the Asgard in their homeworld Orila. ;D

There's just something creepy about a 42-year-old pot-bellied Mr. Spock with B.O. who lives in his parent's basement.  ;D ;D

I used to watch Star Trek a lot, and one time thought that it might be fun to go to a cenvention. All of those people that Alrot was talking about who take the show way to seriously freaked me out and I had to leave. :-/ I still enjoy the show, but haven't watched it much since that experience.

Kat: Aren't there already Stargate conventions? I like that show a lot too, but the people who dress up like Jaffas and go to conventions and stuff are just as bad as the trekkies IMO. I'll go as far as getting the DVDs (up to season 8 now) but that's it for me. :P

I've watched some of all those shows, as well as Superman and Batman movies; also wote a few short stories, with my own costumed characters, when I was in my teens. My days of dressing up in such costumes ended well before then, however.
:P ::)

8-)

i have read about these "trekies" that totally incorporate star trek into every facet of their lives. they model their homes after parts of the enterprise, they wear the clothes from the show, engage in conversations as if they themselves were a part of the show... the basic idea of what i saw was that it is a psychological issue in which the fan "escapes" his or her own dull reality by substituting it with the exciting fantasy offered by the show.

Usually the hard core "treckie" leads a dull or inadequate social life until placed in their Star Trek element. Prior to their involvement in the Star Trek life style they may have been socially rejected by others or had a hard time fitting in. hence the 40 year old in his parents basement stereo type.

some members of the star trek extreme fan community DO take the show too seriously, but to most fans i think it is just a social convention for like minded individuals.

its just those who take it too far and actually start to believe that they are Spock.  ::)
