I miss getting that magazine. Maybe I should renew my membership....
I do agree with the problem with Flight Simmers creating bad habits of staring at the instrument panel instead of outside. My instructor had a hard time getting me to get my eyes outside. It took a while, but I don't have that problem now.
On the plus side, I was good at flying my instruments. She used to tell me that if the average private pilot were to accidentally fly into IFR conditions, he or she would only have a minute or two to get out of it before crashing. She once told me that I was so bad at staring at the insruments, that it would take me that long before I realized I was in IFR conditions....

But in the end, there are always going to be advantages and disadvantages to using PC flight simulators as a training aid. I think it depends on your attitude and how you look at it.
