South Korea's Ban Ki Moon has taken over as secretary general of the United Nations - the first Asian to hold the post in 35 years.

The South Korean former foreign minister is the organisation's eighth leader and succeeds Kofi Annan, who was at the helm for 10 years.

Mr Ban faces a number of global crises as well as reform of the UN itself.

He has vowed to be a bridge-builder and a harmoniser and to set the highest ethical standards.

The BBC's UN correspondent in New York, Laura Trevelyan, says Mr Ban, 62, has given little away about his diplomatic priorities.

I think North Korea has every right to have nuclear weapons. If country's as the USA and Russia can have it then why they not?

How many wars have they been in in the last century?? Then consider the US...They are the biggest threat in the world atm

but unfortunatly we keep doing kick ass research, adn then giveing the produt to the US to make, the atomic bomb for example!

I meant to say the US and the UK...we are just as bad!

The US is the biggest threat to the world, that's just so obvious!  No one else has hour firepower, and even if they did the US is the only country stupid enough to use it.
