My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age," Mrs. Ford said in a brief statement issued from her husband's office in Rancho Mirage. "His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country."

Do you mean you are related to him or do you mean father of the country?

It is a quote from Mrs. Ford.

Sad. He lived to a good old age and lived a full life. There aren't many ex-presidents left now.

I kinda liked Jerry Ford, and will miss him. His legacy is very positive and he certainly deserves a "Hurrah!" Happy Trails, Jerry.

Ford was the only president not to be elected as either president or vice president. The times when the president was assasinated the elected vice president took over and was therefore elected into office.
Not quite Woody. I think what Jake means is that Ford never stood for re-election after his 2 1/2 years in office by default. Therefore he was never elected President in his own right.

Ford ran for election after his appointed term, and lost to Carter.
The trick was.. he wasn't elected as Nixon's VP;

*cough*
You may recall some assasinations of presidents in US history, resulting in successions of the VPs... but actually, those successions were not what first came to mind...

Very sad, but he lived a good long time, considering how accident-prone he was.

No disrespect; I know he'd chuckle at that...

For the most part VPs that came into office as a result of a tragedy were elected to a 'second' term. Ford took over for Nixon and was never elected after finishing out Nixon's term.
Who can name the only US Presidents still alive today?
