Not a good day for Taliban sympathizers.
These video shots are not made through the shooter's
telescopic sight... they are made looking through the spotter's
scope.
The spotter lies right next to the sniper and helps the sniper to
find and home in on the target.
The sniper is using a 50 calibre rifle. A 50 cal. round is about
7-8 inches long and the casing is about an inch in diameter.
The bullet itselfis one-half inch in diameter and roughly one
and one-half inches long.
Pay close attention to the beginning of the video.   A Taliban is
laying on top of the peak in front of you... when you hear the shot
fired....watch what happens. The sniper is also about a half mile away
... or more.
A Canadian sniper in Afghanistan has been confirmed as hitting an
enemy soldier at a range of 2,310 meters, the longest recorded and
confirmed sniper shot in history. The previous record of 2,250
meters was set by USMarine sniper Carlos Hathcock in
Vietnam in 1967.   The Canadian sniper was at an altitude of
8,500 feet and the target, across a valley, was at 9,000
feet. Canadian sniper units often operated in support of US infantry
units,which were grateful for their help. The record lasted only one day,
until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters
(8000feet).
The Canadian snipers fire special .50-calibre McMillan tactical
rifles which are bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines. The
Canadian snipers were the only Canadian troops operating without helmets
or flak jackets as they had too much other equipment to carry. Each
three-man team has one sniper rifle, three standard rifles (Canadian C7s), one of
them with a 203mm grenade launcher.

Most people don't have a clue how powerful a .50 cal round is. I've seen the aftermath of a .50 in combat and it's horrific to say the least. Even a near miss can kill someone. The percussion wave going past the body can cause unbelievable trauma.  :o

That is impressive, just to put it into perspective, 8000' is just over one and a half miles. I have a lot of experience with .50 cal muzzle loaders, but I would like to try a modern .50 just once.

A very talented gunsmith in Albuquerque, NM (Dempsey Milton) once made a .50 cal muzzle loading rifle using a .50 machine gun barrel. Is that close enough?  ;D  He even machined down it to an octagon shaped barrel.

I didn't see it ,but if it is (you know those guys who likes to kill women and goes around the world making terrorism) I thing is Suitable to all the peacefull world...

In the last shot, you can clearly see a person leaning back against the rock. Then his head explodes.

If it were a .50 cal, there'd be a lot more than just guts flying.

Believe me ..... it was a 50 cal .... and there was more than just guts flying.  :o

A .50 BMG would travel through any animal, be it gopher or human,
quite readily and have a Negligible change on it's ballistics.
The rock behind the apparent targets would be vapourized had it been a .50.
All I say was some small puffs of dust, and the greasy grimy gopher guts.

I saw a quad .50 open up on NVA that were trying to overrun our position. It literally knocked trees down, made gravel out of large rocks, went through a NVA truck like a hot knife through butter, turned the NVA soldiers into hamburger. Their bodies just exploded sending body parts in every direction. One round would mow down several men at once with ease. So NEVER under estimate the power of a .50!

I'm just thankful I was never on the receiving end of that weapon!

If a .50 was ever used on a gopher...lmao...I rather doubt you'd find anything other than a red splat in the grass. I guarantee, just the percussion wave of the bullet coming near just about any small animal would cause such bad trauma that it would more than likely kill at close range and stun it at up to about 2 feet away.

As a hunting weapon, it's pretty useless unless you want to clean em' and gut em' with one shot. You might have the hide left from most deer if your lucky. Provided it's a a-hole shot....lmao
