Something we can all do about SPAM!

I just had an idea. Spam is getting popular on the forum these days. So here's the idea: If you notice spam, simply bump every thread on the page, starting at the bottom and working your way up. THe threads will still be in the right order but the Spam will get shuffled to the bottom where nobody will read it. And the mods will easily be able to find the spam because they'll see that all the posts have been bumped.
This works on the idea that there are more of us (forum users) then there are of the (Spammers) and if we band together then Spamming the forum will simply stop being effective. Ever Spam will get one view and get shuffled right off the front page, never to be seen again.
So, are ya' with me!?!? Let's kick some spammer butt!

Seems like everyone would end up having to spam the forum to stop the spammers... :-/
Don't think the Mods would appreciate that one bit. I think the Mods do a great job killing the spammers. ;)

I hope Chris is joking - cos if he attempts this he'll be the first spammer to get picked off.

Isn't bumping a lot of old topics with off topic posts considered spam? I know it is on the forum I mod.
I don't think it would be too bad if you kept the conversation going, but it's still frowned upon.

Yes, I consider that spam too. Bumping old topics to add random comments is very annoying. There is one particular individual of late here that has come along and upset the donkey cart with that technique.

*BUMP*
...sorry, couldn't resist.

Seriously though, that isn't a
bad idea, I just think it would be better (and easier) to simply ignore the spam.

Then the spammer goes Bump after it's been covered...

I'm with Chris. We should fight spam with spam. It is the only logical course of action.

Here's a thought. Don't most spammers use a temporary e-mail account to make tracing harder? If so, then just don't send the verification e-mail for 24 hours after somebody registers.
A: Good idea? B: Bad Idea? C: Really Stupid Idea? ;D

If you see spam notify a mod, we'll come along with our Uzi and deal with it

There is spam on the site. It's toward the bottom of the page. Title "stop smoking products" or something like that. It's gotten only 5 views since I bumped it to the bottom of the pile (one of them mine). So my technique, although it ticked off some of the membership, worked well.
Better perhaps than the Uzi approach which has kept the spam on the site for over 12 hours now...

Sorry but I think that proves that your theory doesn't work. :-/
