Can somebody point me in the right direction for the guidelines regarding signatures? I want to make myself a banner etc. but don't know what the size limits are and stuff.

Thanks in advance!

Back again...

As you can see I've created a somewhat simple banner.
2 questions.
Number one. How do I make the back ground transparent so it just uses the forum background?
Number two. Anyone have any tips as to what I should do to make it better? I kinda want the Cirrus that I have there in the sig somehow. I think it just needs some sort of background possibly? I'm not quite sure. I'm accepting any comments and/or criticisms.

Thanks!

Number 1: do you have photoshop? if so save as .gif and delete backgound (might have to mess with the layers in order to do this (it has been a while since i have used photoshop)). Remember 30K max for sigs.

Just done this in IrfanView. Save as GIF & select Save transparent color/Choose transparent color while saving. It's quick & simple.

It looks fine to me as it is. ;)

Thanks Hagar. I'll remember that little trick for next time.

Any idea how it can be done in Photoshop since that's what I did the original work in?

Glad to help. I don't have Photoshop but BMan already told you. ;)

Hmm didn't notice that post before.

Bman, I already deleted the background in the orginal but for some reason it still did that. Is it because I used JPEG format rather than GIF?

Thanks!

I am trying to remember, but it has been a while. . .(don't have photoshop on this computer). . .I think you find the answer in the Layer window. . .when you delete normally it turns white, but when you have the things set to make the background transparent the deleted area should turn to a "white and grey checker pattern" instead of white. . .

As to your question. . . yes, transparency doesn't work in JPG/JPEG images, only .GIF format (well there are others, but for our purposes only .GIF)

let me get back to you if I find any more info. . .

It must be because I had it in JPEG. The original was in JPEG mode. Now when I export in GIF mode in Photoshop it has a transparent background just as it should.

This is quite a complex program and I don't think I'm ever going to figure it all out.

It took me a long time too. . .steep learning curve, but some people can do really unbelievable things with it

I'm mainly looking to use to brush up digital photos and such. Not any serious modifications. Although, I have been using it to try to create images for a website I'm working on. It will probably never get published but I'm working on a website for the FBO that I used to work for since their's is incredibly out of date.

One day I'll figure all of this stuff out.... and then the new version will arrive.

The basics don't change. No need to update for the sake of it. Newer doesn't always mean better. If the old version does what you want stick with it.

Wish I had this advice before I bought FSX  ;D

I was running FS2002 before I bought it though so it's quite the improvement even with settings not very high.
