The Uk has not long hit 60 million I believe. When one looks at the land size, political power, economics magnitude of the US it seems weird that it has only 5 times as many people as the UK.

No offense to anyone, but I have a feeling there were 300,000,000 people in America a long time ago, just not 300,000,000 legal citizens.

When you concider that the UK is smaller than North and South Carolina put together,and has  population of 60 million, there is room for a lot more than that.

The politics probably follows the economics more than the population.  Consider that if just one of the states in the US (California) were an independant country (and many of us wish this was the case  ) it would have the world's fifth largest GDP.  The US obviously has the largest GDP, and second runner up, Japan, is a factor of 3 smaller than the US.

It's hard to say what drives the economics to be so different.  My libertarian self likes to think it's economic freedom (tax and business law).  But I'm sure compelling arguments could be made for any number of factors.

Actually 300 million is rather worrying, there aren't many people celebrating-we were at 200 million just 40 years ago.

Immigrants have been taken into account (both legal and illegal) on the clock.

The population of America would still be exceedingly small if it wasn't for the imigrants.
