Yes, thats me!

Been on the healthy eating and partial fitness for the past 3 months now, i decided i REALLY needed to make a change, i was at the stage where it was simply un-bearable.. at this time, i feel a tad better, things are fitting better...

Quite strange really, alot of mates like to take the p*ss but it really doesn't bother me.. Its my body, and im getting along with it!

Just joined a new gym today, so i'll be going to the gym straight after college.. 4 times a week, and once at the weekend. Healthy eating is surprisingly going well.. i actually enjoy it!
Just wondered if any fellow Simviation members have any other tips/experiences for me?

Quite hard at the weekend, ive gotta cut back on the booze, and i cant indulge in a semi pissed Curry competition, as i usually do every week.

Cheers,

James... A Jean size smaller!

Good for you Jimbo-it really does make one feel a lot better.

I'm 17 and have the metabolism of a humming bird.  I more or less eat junk and I've gained a 1.5 lbs in the last two years.  Still, I'm joining the air force in less than a year so I've started my own exercise regimen as well.

Yeh good man Jimbo :)

My tip would be not to go to heavy on the gym stuff if you don't intend to keep if up long term! I went through this gym phase like a year ago, and really bulked up etc...kinda got sick of it now though and just do my usual sports to keep fit...but all that musscle has gone saggy!! Its disgusting, my pecs are starting to look like breasts, and teh less said about the biceps the better!! :-X (its not like im putting on fat either, its literally just the musscle wasting away...)

So yeh, take it easy ;D

ironically I am in the middle of a weight gain period, completely unexpected, but since I find it impossible to usually gain a llb I am stuffing my face with everything possible, hopefully we'll meet in the middle and achieve our goals.
By the way I'm not rubbing it in lol.
Seriously though, discipline. Your either on a diet or your not. I have always worked out, lifted weights and ate properly. Dont do the whole, eat well so treat yourself once a month routine. Seriously it makes it impossible to really suceed. Once you stop eating something for a while you'll find you no longer need or want it. Its tough at first but well worth it. Dont give up on the exercise. Remember cardio, you can lift all the weights you want and do all the situps in the world, but you wont notice a visual differance, without riding, running and swimming. Its those sorts of things that burn fat. No point in having a great six pack if its hidden ;)

Cheers Everyone!

Its a bit strange, been one of "lads" at college, everyone's doing weights etc. I currently work at a Fitness Centre on Sundays (Greens Health and Fitness - Sheffield), and i get access to the facilitys there. So on the weekends i go there, and in the week i go to the one next to my college. At greens ive booked lessons with a very good friend of mine, hes a personal trainer, so he's going to be helping me for a few weeks.

Cobra:.. I know.. What is it with the "Gym" period with all the students these days? They all go on the weights LOL.. I'm purely doing it for my health, cos if i dont get it good, i might(will) get diabetes in a few years time. YES thats how bad it is.

But i'm on the way, and i know the possiblities of doing too much Excercise and weight loss... I DONT actually have cravings anymore, like at the weekend when i'm out having the odd few, i dont have the urge to go an get a kebab and then get back to drinking.. Its amazing cutting down on drink.. I NOW stay with 4 bottles max all night, and because everyone who i go out with gets that Pissed, they think ive been drinking them all night, infact they think ive drank more because ive always got a bottle in my hand... LOL

I know the consiquences, and a person of my age, and size really does need to do something.. So far it hasn't stopped me doing any particularily which i need to.. but in a few years that WILL, WILL change!

Its just annoying going out looking for jeans, i look at some, find the W size, then the W fits, but the Length is too Long and baggy, so they look stupid LOL!

Remember, im not doing any Gym just to "Perk" myself up, i'm doing it for my health.. That stuff comes after i loose weight. So for now? I'm in the middle of it, and i'm feeling great again!

Rock on!

The fact you have the positive attitude is definatly the most important thing. You dont seem to be seeing as a chore which is why most people quit. Good on ya. :) Why not quit the beer altogether? Save a ton of money on top of getting healthy. ;)

Find a hobby where you get a lot of exercise and that you can really love.

Listen to Chris!

I run two to three miles a day-I hate it.  Absolutely hate it.  I love biking, but I have a very limited time frame to exercise, so I run.  To get good exercise from biking takes hard cycling for 45-60 mins (for me), and I only have 20-30 mins per day.  The only way I keep it up is I get up very early when I don't know any better.  As much as I dislike it, I know I'll keep it up because it's leading to something very important.  For the average person not working towards a specific goal like I am, it is very important to find something you LIKE doing.

I used hate running and excercise and all that, until I signed up for the wieght lifting class for my sophmore year of high school, and during the first sememster I absolutely hated it, and was sure I was going to drop it by the second semester.  But when that time came around, I actually started to enjoy it, and signed up again for second semester.  After that, I took the same class for the next four sememsters until I graduated.  Then I went to college and got a bit lax, so I really decided to straighten myself up.  Now I play raquetball for an hour twice a week, try to do over 100 pushups everyday (not all at once though :P), try to run at least 3 times a week, and I absolutely love the feeling of getting back after a good workout, it's usually pure hell while I'm running or something, but afterwards, I sleep better, feel better, and do better on my homework and just feel motivated to get things done, and that's a feeling I love.  It's also important to eat right though, and I've cut back on the frozen pizza (staple of the college student diet) and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and organic foods and less of the really fatty, greasy food (every now and then though is alright  ;D).

Hey Beefhole, are you going to the Academy, or are you going ROTC or enlisted?

Muhahaha. Excercise? Whats that? ;D

The definition of being healthy is to be able to do everything you do on a day to day basis and a bit more should you need to.

That said recently I've been contemplating taking up running and hockey again. I have no need to run anywhere at the moment so I don't and as a result I regret it when I do how ever short the distance may have been.

Why not quit the beer altogether?

I'll pretend you didn't say that. ;D

If I could get into the academy, I'd go.  As of right now it's looking like ROTC at Penn State ;) (I've talked to the wing commander there)

I dont want to Quit it all together, its just "Something" i look forward to at the weekend, with the mates. Only a few bottles, then the rest of the weekend is spent working. Only the real time i get to socalise.

I dont dis-like the gym, i jus think its boring, but i need to get into a routine, which is why ive got help from a personal trainer.

On my normal diet, i dont actually eat that bad, i hate fast food, and i always usually have a fresh homecooked meal, with whatever greens there is on the side. I think the main problem was Portion sizes.. I cut down GRADUALLY, not halfway, GRADUALLy so that i could get used to it.

Beleive it or not, i love healthy food, and Veg.. My mum was always surprised when i was a kid 'cos i always used to eat my greens LOL.

Sitting down and thinking about doing it is a lot different than actually getting up and out DOING IT.

As i say to myself, things will only get better, and when i have suceeded in a year or two time, i should be a new person. Its not just loosing weight which comes off your body, you GAIN confidence, FEEL better, Concentrate better and have better self control.

Cool, make sure you start as a freshman though, not that you can't start later, it's just a bit easier if you start ealier.  I decided at the end last year (my sophmore year) I actually did want to go into the Air Force, so I got started with AFROTC here at the beginning of this semster, but I would have to extend my "collegiate experience" for another year, which wasn't really a good thing, mostly financially.  So we decided that the best route would be through OTS (hell).  So good luck to you in ROTC. :)
