A group of drunken youths thought they had picked an easy target when they decided to disrupt a brass band's open-air concert watched by a crowd of pensioners. But they thought again when the band struck up the theme from The Great Escape and - as one - a "Dad's Army" of around 20 war veterans rose from their deckchairs and advanced towards the mob, prompting them to turn on their heels and flee.
Les Brown, 78, a former RAF pilot who served in Egypt during the second world war, said: "We got so fed up with these little toerags, some of us decided to stop them. The Great Escape music came on and I looked round and caught glimpses of other people obviously thinking the same as me. We stood up and kissed our wives and marched towards them. It felt like I was back in the war, coming up against a fierce foe.
"But we were a determined lot. We might be old, but these youngsters didn't stand a chance in hell. I've never seen a group of young men look so scared as when we started advancing."
The showdown flared in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, on Sunday, as the yobs - aged between 18 and 25 - spilled out of pubs after the World Cup.
They descended on Grove Park, carrying crates of beer and began playing football close to the bandstand where the Redland Wind Band was entertaining around 300 people. It continued to play - until a ball was launched at the conductor, who halted the performance.
The band provided a suitably stirring tune as the pensioners, some with sticks, others on Zimmer frames, advanced on the 30-odd youngsters shouting: "Forward!" and "Away with you!" To the surprise of some, they obeyed.
John Horler, 60, who runs the cafe in the park, said: "Suddenly, about 20 of us, mostly aged 60 or 70, got up from our chairs and advanced. It was amazing - totally spontaneous - and the kids could see we meant business. It was like a scene out of Dad's Army. Maybe it was the Dunkirk spirit that spurred us all on."

And some people think old folks aren't good for anything...! ;D
The older you are, the more bitter your hatred of the young., and the less you value your own life.
Therefore, who better to keep these punks in line than the elderly? ;) :D

The fall of the Japanise Empire proved that a bunch of suicidal fanatics is sometimes not the best way forward. :P ;D

My world, at present, is full of young, school-children/teen-age, toe-rags, Hell bent on making every-one's life around them a misery....

It's amazing that it only needs one or two annoying little arse'oles to turn everyone off youngsters in general...

We have recently remembered all those who died in the Battle of the Somme to enable these little pricks to live in freedom, and they repay us with their blind arrogance and stupidity...!

It's a sad fact, that at my age now, I hate most bleedin' kids....!

I just hope that our Flight Sim Forum doesn't contain any of these "waste of space" juveniles that blight every-one's lives...;)...!

Great-Grandad Paul...With a family of good, well behaved children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren....Trust me....I keep my eye on them...;)....;D...!

An older gentleman had an appointment to see the urologist who shared an office with several other doctors. The waiting room was filled with patients. As he approached the receptionist desk, he noticed that the receptionist was a large unfriendly woman who looked like a Sumo wrestler.

He gave her his name.

In a very loud voice, the receptionist said, "YES, I HAVE YOUR NAME HERE; YOU WANT TO SEE THE DOCTOR ABOUT IMPOTENCE, RIGHT?"

All the patients in the waiting room snapped their heads around to look at the very embarrassed man.

In an equally loud voice he replied, "NO, I'VE COME TO INQUIRE ABOUT A SEX CHANGE OPERATION, BUT
I DON'T WANT THE SAME DOCTOR THAT DID YOURS."

DON'T MESS WITH THE OLD FOLKS!

Well can't say anything derogatory or negative about the young folks that pop in here. :)

Many are into outside activities, sports and school.  Those that have finished school still pop around when back in this area.  No, I can't say there is a problem with the young folks around here, if they do have one go astray they usually sort it out amongst themselves.

We have had young men who joined the forces, got posted away and popped in here six or so years later just for a visit.  Really makes us feel good when they do that. :)

With our children grown, having their own successful careers and family, several on each coast and two overseas it is wonderful to have their friends they grew up with still drop in as well.

That in itself kind of tells us we did something right and smooths out the wrinkles of retirement a little bit. ;)

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Kids these days.... Ugh, don't even get me started!

I may `only' be thirty seven years old but I can assure everyone I feel that I know exactly where this is coming from in terms of general observation and everyday living.

In nine out of ten cases I blame parents and hold them completely responsible. The educational system ranks a very close second, with cultural and ethnic mixing coming in a distant third.

Actually pinning these irresponsible acts and attitudes to any one historical error would be an error though. It's a culmination of things in my most humble opinion.
