I'm looking for some inspiration guys... :)

Has anybody of you made an interesting observation or heard of an interesting observation?

For example, the observation:
You swim faster in shallow water

I need to write an essay in physics and I think I am going to write it on an observation as such, investigating it.

If anybody has any, it would be appreciated! ;)

PS It is true, you do swim faster in shallow water. ;D

Not sure if it will help with your physics essay, but... its a fact that nearly all customers turn right when they enter a superstore ;D

"You fly faster with a more powerful engine"  ;D

Being serious...

"Flying in the same aircraft, you can fly faster at a higher altitude than a lower altitude"

Is this ever an errant thread:

I don't swim in shallow water: wading through it is simpler and I can more easily see where I'm going. It does remind me of when a couple of my aunts and uncles once took a rowboat a ways offshore to fish. One of my uncles fell overboard into the deeper water but, fully clothed, began swimming for his life. About 500 feet offshore his clothing (shoes, in particular) was taking its toll but he strained to make it to shore. However, many onshore began laughing: most of the last 500 feet in which he swam in drown-feared panic was less than three feet deep and my uncle was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

I bought 500 AA batteries for $5 some years ago. About 50 are left and are still usable. I wish I'd bought 500 AAA batteries for which I now find more need.

Lastly, cspyro21, what are you doing with the Hurricane? My interest in WW2 fighters was peaked by "The Hurricane Story" when I was @ 10 so I've slightly preferred the Hurricane to the Spitfire (don't tell Ozzy... oops ::))

"Cars really are powered by hamsters/gerbils on wheels...
...and groundhogs, squirrels, racoons, frogs, skunks, etc., under them. :P Tell us, Alphajet_Enthusiast, why do creatures usually run across the road right in front of you when they were quite safe remaining where they were? :-/ 8)

And while we're on the subject, why do they make eye contact with you first? That always makes me think that they were depressed and saw you as a means to an end... ::)

Well, certainly after they've been tattooed with your tire tread.  :o 8)

Heres one that Male Physics students have been pondering for eternity.

Why is it that the most streamlined females offer the most resistance?

There is a actual answer to this question!

The reason rabbits, squirels and other animals will run in in a zig-zag pattern in front of your car is becasue that is thier "self-defense" mechnisim kicking in. It is also the same reason that they come out in front of you when they appear safe already off to the side of the road, instict tells them that the predator will attack at thier present location, to avoid this attack they jump or run towards the predator in hopes that when the attack happens the predator will end up behind them. The predator almost always "jumps" at its prey.

To evade a predator they will run in a zig zag pattern to confuse its attacker in hopes of getting away, most of the time directly in front of it.
Predators will almost always attack head on or in a straight line, thus the fuzzy ones chance of survival is uped by doing some zig-zagging.

Animals can't reconize the difference form lets say a lion or a car, to it both are a predator, and using its instincts will try to avoid each the same way.

Think of it as a Dogfight, bogie on your six what do you do to keep him from nailing your arse? lol

Forgot my observation

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?
