Boohoo.  Stop eating.

http://www.slate.com/id/2139941/nav/tap1/?GT1=8019

Isn't this dumb?  I can't understand why it's so hard.  Don't eat rubbish.  Eat only when you're hungry.  It's not hard.

Not that hard for you.  Alas, there are people whose problems differ from your own.  It's also part of a much bigger societal problem.  I'll leave it at that.

Dumb?  Obesity is an epidemic.  And it's on the rise.  A war on fat is exactly what we need and have needed for decades as we saw it coming.

Thing is a war on fat means a war on urban tanks and everything else in the supersize cult.
Hunting fat isnt as easy as hunting drug lords.

Personally I put this obesity thing down to two problems;
a) lack of self discipline (e.g. not taking exercise)
b) the "now" culture of everything instantly, no delayed gratification...

Every overweight person I've personally known has had a tendency to eat for solace rather than nutrition (whether they realize they're depressed or not), and a tendency to not get enough exercise. Not saying it's the individual's fault in every case, but so far every poor flabby soul I've ever known had those two traits.
And the self-pity eating just gets worse as one encounters rejection or embarassment due to the excess flab... it's a horrible vicious cycle.
Genetics can dictate body-fat to some extent, but it's no excuse when you keep cookies under the sofa and tell yourself you're "dieting" when you have a diet Big Gulp with your double bacon cheeseburger...

Exactly. Most of the obese people I know have long family troubles, are depressed, etc.. To quote Fat Bastard from Austin Powers "I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat". That's basically it.

Although I really don't know why my dad is overweight. The thing that worries me is that he started gaining weight and going bald right after I was born. I feel kind of bad about it. :P The good thing though is that over the last two months or so, he's been on a diet, wherein he has lost I think a grand total of 30 pounds. He's still got a ways to go but it's working. Last weekend he cheated big time but didn't gain a pound. I guess his motabilism is higher now. Plus he works out every morning.

Nuts, I had another thought but I can't remember it now. Ah well. That's what the edit button is for. :)

Aha, got it. The added risk with being obese is that of heart disease and diabetes. If I may use my dad as an example again, he had high cholesteral for many many years. A lot of people that know him always thought that at a moments notice he would have a heart attack. Again fortunetly he's lowered it since by losing weight and taking medicine for it. So this just goes to prove...

DIET AND EXCERSIZE WORK!
