Hey I'm new.

I'm 18, live in melbourne australia.
Have played MSFS 2004 about 12 hours gametime, though I'm getting more into it now, but I still kinda get bored flying in rear time, but get the satisfaction when I land.
I wouldn't say I do it proply, I normaly fly the lar jet because of its speed and manooverability, I figured out how to use auto pilot and hold air speed and altitute.
I've done some of the lessons but get a little bored..
So if I do all the lesons will I have a rough idea of how to fly a plane?

I tried flying the 747 400 and Melbourne airport runway 16 taking off south, and the plane run out of runway before it got airborne! Which is weird since our airport can easily handle that aircraft.

Hi Morph........not sure how to make you enjoy FS more, we all have our own little\big likes and dislikes, but as for running out of runway on take off with the 747.....this was probably because you were too heavy. Lower your fuel load some and you will find a difference.............commoner

BTW....the thing MOST likely to bore ME would be to do the lessons..............but that is up to you.

Welcome to SimV . The lessons give you a good idea of the flight generally but do agree it can be a bit boring. They do, however, also cover things like using the radio which is realistic and can be used to toggle extras on scenery downloads which is nice. Although the sim can feel a bit restricted with the default aircraft, the best thing about it is the ability to add pretty much any aircraft you like to your hanger. If it's manoverability your after, visit the downloads section on the Simviation site and go for a military fast jet .

As for the 747 on your runway, gotta agree with Commoner. Play about with your fuel load and have a go at adjusting the wind to increase lift etc.

Hi Morphix and welcome to the home of the mentally unstable! (Well, some of us, anyway )

As for learning to fly....the lessons do help, but the can get rather repetitve and boring at times.....so patience is required

Also, if you want to take it further, and learn "tricks of the trade", we at SimV are a wealth of knowledge and I imagine we'll happily help you.

OK, well, I tried again, took off with no passangers (which for what happend at the end of the 25 minute flight was thankfull) and only 10% of fuel. This time I managed to clear the end of the runway by about 400meters of in real life a 3.4km long runway i think, facing north from 34r Here in melbourne australia. I began to climb and soon found my self at about 6000FT in about 30 seconds, LOL!
Enableing me 1337 skills i set the auto pilot to 6,200FT, heading 360 and speed 380knots, I flew straight north till i was 27miles away from take off, then set Auto pilot nav hold and did a long banking turn to face south or about 165 back to where i came from, about half way back i started to decent till about 3700 feet when i started to bank left again which would be a east turn to bring me back to runway 16r/34r where i started, unfortinatly I didn't line up proply, and only about 2km away i attempted to make a to sharper turn, i was about 15degrees out. How ever I did land at about 185knots bouncing left and right of the runway before comming to a stop.

My advice to any new Sim Pilot who wishes to master the principles of Aeroplane flight is to practice, practice, practice on the Default Cessna 172 before you even consider flying a large passenger jet aircraft...!!!

How would your passengers feel if you suddenly told them mid-flight, over the intercom, that you have never flown an aircraft before.... ... ... ...!

Forget all those fancy jet aircraft and start at the very bottom, practicing on the Trainer aircraft...Cessna 150/152 day after day until you PERFECT your flights, and EVERY takeoff and landing is safe and successful EVERY time.... ...!

In REAL aircraft, your life and the lives of your passengers depend upon it....

On this occasion anyway, keep an eye on him the rest of the time  ;)

What is ILS     is it something landing system?

Is there i can stop the plane jolting back to its pre auto pilot enable movements, eg when i turn it off it will bank left or right to when i was when i enabled it

HOw much fuel does the 747 400 hold, i read over 200 000 litres and it seems un corect

Q1 - Not me, no

Q2 - ILS = Instrument Landing System - Uses VOR/NDB stuff and radios to get you landing heavies safely

Not sure why your planes do that, basically, the autopilot 'trims' the plane to keep it on the headings you set - once you disengage the AP the plane shouldn't make any huge changes in direction.

Charlie - write out 100 times 'Not NDB's'!! I hope you've kept on top of your ILS after the tute young man

thats wierd, on mine, when i disengage the AP nothing happens, it carries on going with no changes. not really sure wat is happening there, just like TSC said

Whenever you disable the Autopilot you need to manually re-trim the aircraft again to maintain straight and level flight...
...have a look at the position of your "Trim Wheels"... ...!
