Hee Haw was hilarious country music fun for the entire family.

It ran from the late 60's to the late 80's in the US.

I told my father about it, he was alive when it played on TV, quite sad.

Just posted an obit in the Music forum...
You forgot to mention that he "invented" the Bakersfield sound, gave Merle Haggard his first big break, and wrote such hits as "Act Naturally"... he was a giant long before he did Hee Haw (although that was a fun show).

I doubt that many outside the US would have known and/or related to him.

He was known mostly for the "Hee-Haw" country music comedy/variety program, which I would say is a particularly *American* style of self-deprecating humour.

The artists and skits did a lot, in a way, to shape some of the popular culture of the time.

"I'm pickin'"  (Roy Clark) .... "and ah'm grinnin' !" (Buck OWens).....

Grin on...

While I mostly despise country music, I remember watching Hee Haw in my Great Grandfather's house on the farm.  It was a highlight whenever we visited Jackson Michigan.

Rest easy Buck...this one's for you.  :'(
